I'd wager someone would still pay $20-$30 if it were real.

Like i said...

brianp-beme 03-27-2016 03:29 PM

If real, because it is a Goudey Babe, my guess is it would fetch at least $100. The card's back looks possibly legit, but the front scan is just too blurry to make a virtual judgement.

Not for sale but fyi PSA 0 go for $1200
$20? Wow
I wish could another one for that price.

mrmopar 03-27-2016 04:05 PM

A poor condition Ruth may sell in the $1200 range if it presents well. I have been watching the 181 over the last several months and poor copies routinely break $1K, but they look great for the grade. I don't know how well that version sells because I am not interested in it, but although I don't doubt someone would pay $100 for one that bad, I am not sure why. Isn't one of the allures of a baseball card the appearance? I suppose filling a hole for a set is one reason, but jeez...

ullmandds 03-27-2016 04:15 PM

My comment was made somewhat in jest as reprints routinely sell for a few hundred $.

bobbyw8469 03-27-2016 04:39 PM

There are different levels of PSA 1's. That being said, this card won't 1. It would set record low for "authentic" if it is real.

richardcards 03-27-2016 04:51 PM

Ruth

I trust the dealer I got it from 15 years ago.
PSA 0
goes for $1200 with 25 watching.
I will send to grading one day will show a lot nicer .
I have examined with my goudey cards and 100%.
$100? more like $750 but again not selling
happy easter

pokerplyr80 03-27-2016 05:53 PM

750 sounds pretty high to me in an authentic holder. 200-300 would be my guess. There is too much paper loss on the front for much more than that.

Bruinsfan94 03-27-2016 06:01 PM

If you could get 200-300$ I'd take it and never look back.

Ok, how much for this authentic Ruth? It is obviously missing huge chunks and is actually in two pieces, but in my opinion it displays a lot nicer than the one posted. We all had a nice laugh when I have posted this in the past...it is not all about the money.

As a side question, I wonder how much someone would pay for my Diamond Stars Hornsby with the blank front?

Yea I agree that is much nicer because you can actually see the Babes face & body. I think the only way someone would buy that Hornsby would be to use it for some kind of shady purpose.

That's a little harsh. If there is enough of the card left to grade I would send it in. I'm sure it's worth more graded as raw there is more of a question of authenticity.

Please. If you put garbage in a holder, it doesn't "show nicer" and it isn't "worth more".

When I previously posted the Ruth, someone commented that they never knew the Babe had such an hourglass figure.

And scammers take note...the Hornsby is not for sale! The only shady purpose I intend for it involves using it as a coaster while resting in a hammock.

Didn't mean to insult. You implied it was a $750-$1200 card though. That is ludicrous.

7nohitter 03-28-2016 05:04 AM

I would love to some day add a Ruth to my '33 collection, and condition is not an issue for me. HOWEVER, I wouldn't go more than $25 for that filler.

I would extremely surprised, even if holdered, this card fetched more than $75.

IronHorse2130 03-28-2016 05:38 AM

This one recently sold on eBay for $650

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1933-GOUDEY-...p2047675.l2557

It has a very nice front with a back that has been destroyed. Based on this and similar sales I don't think it is realistic to expect $750 or more for your example.

You are insane. At least you can see the front on that one. How many people only look at the backs of cards and completely ignore the front?? ZERO. At least on the other example you can see the front. If you were filling it pages of a binder, that slot would be filled, and you can SEE it is a Babe Ruth card. On the OP's example, I have no idea WHO it is!

I think Ben was attempting to say the same as you, he was not backing up the OP's opinion. He was offering a good example of a poor card to state the value was unrealistic.

Personally, I like well presenting poor cards and that example that Ben posted would be a great one for a low budget collector who wanted a Ruth. If it was displayed, no one would know the better. The OPs card ( and I am only being honest, no insult meant) I likely would not put more than 10 bucks toward and that would be just to give it to my son for fun. It has no presentation worth at all.

I am really confused. You know this card is authentic, and you know what the card is worth. What would you like an opinion on?

ullmandds 03-28-2016 06:52 AM

all cards presented are nicer and more valuable than that of the op. just because the op purchased a likely authentic beat to piss goudey ruth years ago for likely a song...the op shouldn't take it as an insult...unless he purposely made the card this way...that this card is not very valuable.

it is what it is.

Bpm0014 03-28-2016 07:12 AM

The guy who owns the $25 card in question here, and the guy that bought the $650 Ruth card with back damage on Ebay (2 threads above).........should get together and put BOTH cards in a holder back to back. Nice front, nice back. Problem solved! You're welcome....

glynparson 03-28-2016 07:19 AM

No way $750

Sorry but all Authentic grades are not valued the same. I honestly think you could get $300-$400 for the card in a
pSA or SGC authentic holder but it would not be an easy sell.

Leon 03-28-2016 08:00 AM

As in the other mistake you made, is your name Billy? Now I see why you couldn't see a thread that was in front of your eyes for 4 days. No big deal but you either need to slow down or speed up or something. PS...I think the OPs card goes for $223.50 in auction (if it went to auction).

Seriously, that's actually a really good observation. If I had the $650 Ruth, I would pay a premium (not $750, but something more than $25, $100?? maybe), just to get the clean back. That would be a cool display seeing front and back together side-by-side. In this case the whole (or two halves) would be greater than the sum of the parts.

Not really a mistake. I never got emails. You said I got them. Well, I didn't. You said I did though, so I'll take the hit and say I got them. My mistake. You can call me Billy.

PS....put me down for $20 on the UNDER....as long as it is a legit auction with no shilling or anything nefarious going on.

Agreed. Would make a good display piece in a frame or something. That is the ONLY way I would be interested in that card.

Leon 03-28-2016 08:24 AM

So Richards name is now Billy? I guess my name is Stan and you can be Steve.

I never said you got emails, Bobby. I doubt you did (though from what I see on the board you might have missed them if they were in front of your face.) It's not a big deal I was just pointing out you don't tend to see things in front of you.

Well, we're five pages deep now and we still don't know what you want an opinion on. Was there a question here? If the question is one of value, not a single person has agreed with your estimate, yet you still "know it's worth at least $500." Why ask for opinions if you know the answer already and aren't interested in listening to opinions?

ETA: I realize these are largely rhetorical questions at this point :D

richardcards 03-28-2016 05:33 PM

goudey

yes I asked for opinions but not anymore since I get estimates of $10 and $25
and insults that my card is garbage.

Bruinsfan94 03-28-2016 05:43 PM

So you want opinions as long as they agree with you? I'm not sure if the card is real and even if it was, does anyone think that one of the big three would holder it? If it is real I think it would go for over 20$ for people who want a filler or a real Ruth. A Goudey Ruth with a much better picture, though trimmed, went for like 375 last month.

I've been formulating my opinion for a couple of days and now just when I am ready to pull the trigger, I am too late. Shucks!!!
