1948 R346 Blue Tint questions
 

Hi guys,

I have a couple of questions on the the 1948 R346 Blue Tint set.
I understand that there are variations with and with out card numbers.

My main question is; are those cards with out numbers just poorly cut, or were there really strips issued without the card numbers.

In my collection I have a Ted Williams with and without the number, but I'm just not sure whether it is a poor cut on the unnumbered version, or if it really is a no number version.

I would think I could see the beginnings of a 44 if it was a poor cut, but again don't know enough to be sure.

My secondary question is; Does any one have any scans of uncut strips of these to share? Ideally I would like to see strips without numbers, but would love to see any uncut strips at all.

In respect to Ted Williams, I have four of these R346 Blue-Tint cards; two with the number 44 and two without the number. The cards are all complete, and this is clearly not a cutting/trimming issue.

I understand that a few of the later strips were printed initially without numbers. These numbers were later added in, and on the Ted specifically, its looks like a child hand-wrote the #44 there. Both PSA and SGC recognize the number and no-number variations for these later print strips.

Your scans are nice, with the no-number being a complete card and the number very close. To be complete, the blue lines on the sides must be present and one on either the top or the bottom with the "tear" edge opposite. Your cards are both variations.
I will try to add scans of these variations in PSA holders if interested tonight.

Sorry, used to have a two card (incomplete) strip, but no longer have that.

Thanks for the info, I would love to see you scans. I was also unaware of the three sided border, that is good information. I would assume that grading companies assign a numeric value to a complete card and an authentic (hand cut) to one with a partial border?

Who issued these?

Ted, congrats on finishing the set! I had seen that thread when I was researching. Despite not having seen any uncut strips numbered or not, it appears to me that there were likely only 6 strips printed. I am theorizing they were issued with card numbers 1-8, 9-16, 17-24, 25-32, 33-40, and 41-48. The last strip 41-48 must have been initially printed without the card numbers. All of the numbers I have seen in that range appear to be hand written.

The manufacturer, as far as I'm aware, is still unknown.
