It's unreal. I've seen a few of his cards at the National in Chicago 3 years ago. Such amazing history

He spent alot on the DBacks this offseason as well. Im glad he displays all those nice cards for the public instead of them never seeing the light of day.
|
It says his collection numbers in the thousands. Uh no. Try well over 10 million.
|
He says that he has high end versions of 16 of the 20 most valuable cards (not all baseball). So what are they?
T206 Wagner T206 Plank 52 Topps Mantle Cobb/Cobb Beyond that I don't really know. Some of the cards from the Old Judge NY Giants set? |

I took a few pics, I wish I had taken one of all of them so I would not miss or forget any that were there. I will admit to being a bit star struck (especially by condition ) I'll eventually remember or figure out the other 7 cards, but I jotted down these 34 below... These were SPECTACULAR! 1915 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig #37 portrait 1934 Goudey Nap Lajoie 1934 World Wide Gum Babe Ruth #28 yellow 1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig #61 batting 1938 Goudey Joe DiMaggio Low 1938 Goudey Joe DiMaggio High 1941 Play Ball Ted Williams 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle 1951 Bowman Willie Mays 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps Willie Mays 1953 Topps Willie Mays 1953 Topps Jackie Robinson 1954 Bowman Ted Williams 1954 Topps Hank Aaron 1954 Topps Ernie Banks 1954 Topps Al Kaline 1955 Topps Harmon Killebrew 1955 Topps Sandy Koufax 1957 Topps Brooks Robinson 1959 Topps Bob Gibson T206 Cy Young 1948-9 Leaf Satchel Paige 1948-9 Leaf Jackie Robinson E126 Babe Ruth Montage E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson M101 Jim Thorpe M101-5 Sporting News Babe Ruth T205 Ty Cobb T206 Eddie Plank T206 Honus Wagner T206 Christy Mathewson Portrait T3 Turkey Red Ty Cobb *1949 Bowman Satchel Paige *1915 CJ Joe Jackson *T204 Ramly Walter Johnson *T206 Ty Cobb (bat off) *1949 Bowman Duke Snider *1941 Play Ball Joe DiMaggio I know that neither the T210 Jackson nor the 14 CJ Mathewson were there ,nor do I know if he has them or not. I would have loved to see those! |

It's a poorly worded sentence, but they're referring to the number of cards in his collection. :) |
Next set!

Thank you so much for posting the beautiful pictures!!! I didn't know he owned the only 51 mantle PSA 10 in existence!!! Extremely fantastic collection!!!
|
He's only missing 4 of the highest graded cards in the top 20 sportscards list.
The 4 he doesn't have in the highest grade: Clemente rookie Wilson Franks ted Williams nagurski rookie George Milan rookie |
New Monster?
Thanks to the photo gallery, I added 6 more to the list, which now sits at 40.
See post # 10 above with the updated list. Since there are both high and low numbers of the 1938 Goudey DiMaggio card, I am not sure if I counted the cards to 41 while I was star struck looking at the collection in person! I'll either recount or give up and call it 40:cool: So, while I know that these are the top condition cards extant for these classic cards, and my (soon to be 15 after BST auctions) versions are all very low grade....how many do you guys have? Aw, why don't we just ask Frank to create a Kendrick Monster Number Thread? :p:p;) |

Thanks for posting that. I guess they're not counting the 1914 Ruth xrc. From what I understand it's almost worth what the t206 Wagner is grade for grade.
|
looks like I might have to make a drive to Phoenix, and get some golf in too.
|
Seems a shame to have a Top 20 that doesn't include a Matty or a WaJo!

Aside from the huge money cards I wonder if he collects any sets like the 1952 Topps or another marque set. It looks like a quick read so I will check it out. |

I loved his comment about having to assassinate someone to get the cards. I find it so interesting that the trading card hobby is one where even a guy who has a net worth in excess of a billion dollars can't just go out and acquire any card he wants. |
|
Meh, not my cup of tea.

I Don't Think So Johnny... Not that I know of, Nor Could I find out if he had Any at All! I would Not Doubt it though... A Gentleman wit Moola like that has gotta have one... RiGHT!!! There is a Gentleman that Resides in NYC, The Last I Knew, He had Over 25 Proofs, And that was over 10 years ago. All of His Proofs Have the 4-6 Color Cross Hairs in the X-Y Axis, "Remarkable Collection!" I've email/Chatted wit Him for about 18 months back then. He Bought my SL Jordan... (The Only SL Proof that I know of, the one on OldCardboard!) Mr. Jordan is what Brought us together. Hmmm, I just check'd & Mr. Jordan is No Longer there!? Does Anyone the Story... About the Scans on Old Cardboard & them No Longer Being There!?!? Maybe The Gentleman wit the Proof Set Had it/them Pull'd?!?! I Also Thought that He was the Winner of Leon's Matty!? Anyone Know Who Won Leon's Proof of Mr. Mathewson? Maybe KO? Love to Find Out Aye!? |
