Small Original Collection "Find" from New Orleans

4 Attachment(s)
It looks like I'm going to have the opportunity to purchase a small original collection from New Orleans, and I wanted to share the highlights with everyone.

It's about 40 cards that the seller's grandfather collected, and is mostly comprised of low grade commons in '14/'15 CJ and T213-2, but also has a few T206 Brown Hindu, and T216 Kottons.

There an obvious stand out, a T207 Red Cross Fournier. So far as I can tell this is new to the hobby.

I didn't spend too much time on it yet, but maybe the Victory Meyers is too?

Anyway, I'm attaching images of the highlights.

If I end up with the cards, I'll get most of them graded by SGC and list them for sale in the next month or so.

Cheers

Also, I hope everyone is doing well! I've had a lot going on the past year (all good stuff) and cards have taken a back seat, so I haven't been keeping up at all.

Great discovery and congratulations!

Cheers,
Mike

Those are fantastic. Looks like I should put the brakes on my bidding for the next few weeks. Are you planning to consign them or just sell them here? Or eBay?

ullmandds 03-15-2016 09:54 AM

trae...nice get!!!! any t216 millers?????? Dibs!!!!

Jobu 03-15-2016 09:58 AM

Nice Trae!! Those are some great cards!

I am glad to hear from you, just the other day I was thinking that it had been a bit since I saw your name pop up - happy to hear that everything is going well.

The T214 Meyers is not new to the hobby, since it's listed in the checklist on the Louisiana cards site:

http://www.louisianacards.com/t214-victory.html

But it's still a great card, as are the others! I have that T215 Schulte, but mine is in worse shape than this one. I don't have a T214, but the few that come on the market are out of my price range, and I'm sure this one will be no exception.

Nice! I'm about 50 miles out of New Orleans. I wish I could stumble across something like this. Keep us informed about the future sale/auction.

Thank you, everyone! I hope it works out.

Glenn, I'm not too sure yet.

Pete, sorry no Miller. 3 Sweeney's (haha) and a Marquard.

David, I appreciate the information.

Kenny, no Wheats in this group.

Sean, no dice on the Merkle this time around.

Looks like the market just got flooded. I'll give you $50 because I'm feeling generous.

Trae,

Congrats!

The Fournier is a significant find and the rest aren't too shabby.

Trae!

Congrats Trae! That sounds like a great find, how did you "find" it? Also, glad to have you back, you have definitely contributed a lot over the years.

Thanks again everyone. Unfortunately, after a long period of not hearing from the seller, I received this reply last night:

"I decided to sell locally so I could personally exchange money for cards rather than do it online. Appreciate your interest and professionalism, but I was not completely comfortable dealing online."

We spoke on the phone briefly once, but primarily communicated through email, and at one point I was simply awaiting a PayPal invoice.
His latest reply was a surprise, but I certainly understand that not everyone is as comfortable doing business over the internet as most of us are.

Lesson learned: Offer to travel and meet in-person next time an opportunity like this comes along (if ever).

He lives in Texas, and I don't know anything more specific than that. Hopefully the couple of key cards will show up soon though. At least we know of their existence, wherever they may end up.

ZachS 04-04-2016 08:46 AM

Well that sucks. Hopefully this wasn't a result of "outing" the find here. I was looking forward to seeing the majority of these end up on the selling block. Who knows where they'll end up now.
