1971 Detroit convention program

Here is the program from the 1971 Midwest Sports Collectors Convention (the Detroit show). I posted Mike Anderson's description of that show from Ballcard Collector here: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=218371. There's lots of interesting stuff here, including a description and pictures of the first Detroit show the previous year, and a couple of newspaper articles about it. (I posted about that 1970 Detroit show here: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=218560.) There are also newspaper articles about Crawford Foxwell's 1971 Mid-Atlantic show (described in The Trader Speaks here: http://www.net54baseball.com/showpos...1&postcount=14), and Ed Broder's 1971 Anaheim show (which I posted about here: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=219119). And of course the bios of the attendees are interesting.

I didn't scan the ads, partly to keep the number of images in this post to 18, and partly because most of them aren't that interesting (ads for a baseball trivia game, a sports museum looking for a home, "wanted to buy" ads, and bare-bones ads for hobby publications). In the first comment I'll post a couple of ads that have to do directly with cards, including one from Mike Aronstein's pre-TCMA company.

I fondly remember the 1971 get together at Crawford Foxwell's home. Bill Haber may have taken the photo because I do not see him in it and I distinctly recall trading him some Kodak photos of the Seattle Mariners for a set of 48 Bowman.

Keith Olberman article about an early NY Convention written in 1974

Hi Guys

David has done a great job posting old articles about early conventions and other things. Here is one written by Keith Olbermann about a NY convention from an issue of the Aug. 1974 Sports Scoop.

I attended the show and recall Rob Lifson coming with his father with uncut sheets of R319. Rob must have been about 15 at the time!

Enjoy!

Fred

P.S. Sorry print is so small. I can't figure out how to make it large enough to read and small enough to upload.

article about another early convention in Seattle

Here is an article from the same 1974 Sports Scoop about a convention as we called them back then in Seattle.

I did not make that one! NJ to WA was just to far for a 24 year old just out of college.
