The Cy Young Rookie collection
7 Attachment(s)
Cy Young Winners, that is. I've been putting this together over the past year, and finally completed this week. Seeing as how there aren't many people in my every day life who would be particularly interested in seeing the collected work, I thought I'd share it here. I realize that a lot of these cards don't really fit into the "pre-1980" bucket of this part of the forum, but since the award started in '56, I'm going with it. Also - I don't really know (or care) what a true "rookie" card is these days, so as long as a card seems like a prospect or a first year card, I'm cool with it. The rules have gotten way too complex with modern cards. :) Without further ado, here are the results of my project.

Very nice congrats!

Good stuff!!!

Very nice theme. Thanks for sharing this.

Great collection! :)

Cool collection and even more impressive considering you built it in a year!
|
It's interesting how among the all time greats, there are quite a few guys who just had one off seasons and who had otherwise average careers.
|
Interesting theme for a collection and very nicely done. Great job!

That was a neat idea. Quite a diverse collection of rookie cards. Congrats putting that together.

I think that is a great idea for a collection. Thanks so much for posting the pictures; looks nice!

Great collection! I was thinking of doing something similar. My idea was to collect the card of the year they won the award. Probably a lot cheaper of an undertaking than your collection. Nice cards!

From the time I'd first heard of this goal, I was excited to see it come together. Really amazing, and had no idea the cards themselves would be so nice.
And while most of us are Pre-1980 guys in this forum, who won't score you bonus points for navigating the complex landscape of rookie cards for the more modern players! I might not even be shocked if you told me the most expensive RCs there weren't Koufax/Seaver/Gibson/Spahan but one of these newer ones. Congratulations! Great job getting this done. |
Great job ! Look like a fun collection to put together . Enjoy

Thanks everyone! Love of all of the nice feedback, it's my pleasure to share this little collection with all of you. When I laid them all out on the table to take the picture yesterday, it really was a cool moment for me - really experiencing the thrill that keeps us collecting.
Lou, I am also working on a post-1950 MVP rookie collection which I am nearing completion of. Then my wife and I having a baby, so I imagine I'll be shutting down the acquisitions for awhile. ;) 3XDAD, Cool idea about doing the year of winning. I thought about doing that one day too - sort of a real life version of the 1982 K-Mart MVP set that, at least for me, was my first glimpse of "vintage" (pre-1980 for this kid ;) ) cards. Jason - yes, the modern card world is, again, not one I have much interest in navigating. On the MVP side, the only real rookie of Dustin Pedroia was an autograph issue, so I sort of held my nose as I paid more for that than I did for some of my Hall of Fame rookies. Truly absurd. Anyway- I'll get that '85 Pendleton yet. Thanks again, everyone! |
Very cool collection Carl. Thank you for showing the pics of them all.
I have been trying to put together a similar idea but as an accommodation to my meager budget instead of rookie cards I try to acquire a card from a year they won the award. |
Congrats on the baby! Best wishes!
