Good thread. I can contribute this ticket. I love the fact that it is from the 1931 Homestead Grays team- thought to be the best Negro League team ever. And thanks to N54er, JerseyGary who posted the game info below I was able to know what happened in the game. ( I also picked up Dixon's book about that Grays season. Thanks again!)
On July 30th, 1931 in Crucible, PA, the Grays won their 17th consecutive game crushing Crucible 12-2. Oscar Charleston hit a double, triple and a homer. Josh Gibson and Tubby Scales also had 3 hits apiece and every man in the lineup that day hit safely at least once. Lefty Williams was the winning pitcher, giving up 8 hits and striking out 5 of the locals and the Grays had 16 hits. |
Great items in this thread! Sadly I don't have any items to share (at the moment) despite being from KC home to the Negro League Museum, and of course one of the greatest teams in the league.

The American Giants broadside, complete with nail holes, is 15" x 23" and the Clowns is 12" x 17". The latter is probably post Negro League as they kept barnstorming...I believe. Here is a black background variant of the Stars pennant shown by Darner. When I took the posters out of their hiding place I noticed the tag on the back....I had forgotten the history....Yikes!!!!

Being a HUGE Jackie fan, I am quickly learning how much I really have a place in my heart for the Negro League (Especially Paige). These items are amazing. Keep it up!

This is from an 1895 scorebook which contains three games with the Negro Cuban Giants team which had just formed a few years earlier. Frank Grant was the star of the team at that time.
