1974 profile of Keith Olbermann in Sports Collectors News
Here's a profile of "Whiz Kid" Keith Olbermann from the November 15, 1974 edition of Sports Collectors News. Some interesting stuff about how he got started collecting and what he had in his collection at that time. The article says he was 17, but Wikipedia (and all the other sources I can find online) says he was born January 27, 1959, which would have made him 15 at this time, almost 16. Wikipedia also says he graduated from high school in 1975 (and this article does say he was a senior) and that he enrolled in Cornell at 16. Maybe he was lying about his age to hobby people so they would take him more seriously?
Anyway, here's the article. On the first page I didn't bother to crop out the item about the Cincinnati convention, in case it's of interest to anybody. http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...60206_0009.jpg http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...60206_0010.jpg |
Thank you for sharing.
Always enjoyed watching Keith on ESPN. Hope he will land with MLB network as he has a lot to offer to the hobby, fans and our great game. |
Agreed. I would love to know what his collection looks like now!

Not only had he already written a published book, but more impressive (at least for us folks), at age 17 he already had 468 T206 cards. Can anyone on this board claim something similar? I think I had a total of 12 Pre-war cards by that age.

It's funny. When he talks politics I think he comes across as smug and arrogant, and I don't agree with a word he says. When he talks sports memorabilia I could listen to him all day.
Wouldn't he make a great "Sports Memorabilia Commissioner"? He's the one guy you know would take no prisoners with all the nonsense out there. |
He hopes to find a career in TV or radio
Kudos! |
Great stuff!!

I am waiting
for a response from KO about this whole mess. Perhaps not on our lowly platform (although he could test some shit out) - but on the big stage.
BTW - he has some of the most incredibly tough (and pricey) cards in the N arena and maybe much more material that a minnow like myself would be unaware of. |
Just wish I'd started that young, with the foresight to keep what I'd acquired early on!
Best, guys, Larry |
id have to think maybe Keith was/is friends with some o these guys who have been revealed as crooks.
