Crossing over results
I started a thread awhile back asking about current success rates (guessing) on SGC to PSA as I was about to try my first, so thought I would mention the results in case it is informative. Of course, I had been warned to expect little or NO success---especially with the cards still in their holders--but of course some people I imagine submit real long shots and others try not to.
Anyway, I was 3 for 8. But in every case I was looking only for a straight cross, not a bump--and one 5.5 t206 HOF I was willing to accept a 5 and did not get. I did get a t206 5 and a 5.5. that crossed and a 4.5 CJ 14. Others--all strong candidates, I thought-- failed, even with great centering helping out. Make of it what you will. |
Did you crack out or submit the crossover within the SGC holder?

I am 2-for-6 crossing holdered SGC to PSA at same grade. Have never gotten a bump.
I cracked and submitted to PSA two of the SGC cards that PSA wouldn't cross at same grade and (surprise, surprise) they both graded -- one at same grade and one with a half-point bump. I have come to the conclusion that the PSA crossover service is, how do I put it politely, an unwise expenditure. NOTE: I should say that I thought the six SGC holdered cards I submitted to PSA for cross were all good candidates for a same-grade cross -- I wouldn't say that about all of my SGC cards. |
I tried twice without cracking, a bvg 7.5 68 ryan, tried to cross to a psa 7, no luck, and an sgc 4, tried for a psa 4. I did not crack either beforehand. 0 for 2 if you're keeping score.

In my very limited experience, you need to bust them out. It almost a "they said this, what do you say" thing.

I cracked out my green SGC CobbY...graded 50... Brought it to PSA and got VG plus .
Had a 33 GoudeybRuth yellow background sgc grated authentic ... Cracked it and submitted it to PSA and got a four . |
I would never submit in a holder . It gives them ideas .

I recently cracked out 20 "old" GAI T206s and submitted them to SGC.
Several with minor paper loss on the back had been overgraded and they did receive lower grades, which I expected. All of them were encapsulated and received number grades. Apart from the paper loss group, they crossed fairly well with a few marginally higher, a few the same and a few marginally lower. I was not pleasantly surprised, except for the fact that all were graded. When the time comes to sell, they will do better in he SGC holder than with the GAI label, despite the overall grade reduction. I am a believer in cracking before submitting. |
I have seen the Youtube videos on cracking BVG and PSA. Does anyone have tips on cracking GAI and ASA?
|
The ones I submitted were all holdered.

I recently tried crossing a PSA 4 vg ex over to SGC and the cards came nack Authentic. No explanation so I need to call. How can a PSA gaded 4 only get Authentic from SGC? Not a big deal as it was not a high dollar card, but send a justification for why as I am a little skeptica lon this one.
