I'll admit when I'm stumped....
So what the heck is this?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNKNOWN-T205...gAAOSwT4lWRKMD It's got to be a modern cut out of something right? |

I have just started collecting T205 Cubs with assorted backs. Never heard of the test he was talking about and definitely would not bid on these items. Unfortunately like PT Barnum said, "A sucker is born every day" and somebody will fall for this garbage. Shows you need to know your cards before you buy. I am not a buyer here in this case.

It looks like an ad cut to me.

It is a magazine cut that has been rebacked. I did a post on it a long time ago as I have a grouping of them I fixed up...they were cuts from a 1950s general interest magazine. I got a lot of 10 or so for under $10 a few years ago and i decided it would make a nice rainy day project to package them up ... I could probably find the title of the magazine with a little effort. And if anyone is interested in buying mine at a comparable price to what is being asked for the one on ebay, please send me a message. ;-).

As you can see, the font and design matches exactly, though the design is slightly different (copy at the top of the piece as opposed the bottom). I expect it was a series of articles that was done over a couple months.

When he Liquid drop tested it, it absorbed. Proving it was made of paper.
If you'll buy that, then you'll love this: T206 Cobb with rare Big Chief back! $10,000 OBO Liquid drop tested! |
Wish he would have said what the liquid drop test was.
A real drop of water test/damp cloth test does work great to help rule out some type of counterfeits though. I don't know about strip cards but most T cards and almost everything from 1948-present it works great on. |
How does this liquid drop test work? I've never heard of it.

EDIT: I would compare the water test to using a black light. It only works to detect counterfeits/alterations done by amateurs. |
