Question about extended time on auctions

I'm watching an item up for auction that's on extended time, it was of a card that some posters were talking about here and the story gripped me, so I've been watching the card to see what it sells for. Anyways, every minute the clock refreshes back to 15 minutes, I assume there was a bid, but the price is still at $4500, despite the fact this has been going on for hours now. Just wondering why the extending time is still going if the price hasn't gone up.

Hi Ryan:

I'm pretty sure I know the card you're discussing. The auction it's in has a 15-minute clock for the entire auction, meaning that if ANY item in the auction gets a bid, the ENTIRE auction stays open. That's why you're seeing the clock continuously resetting - because bidding is still very brisk.

Hope this helps!

Ah, I see, so it's a part of an entire lot. I wasn't aware. Thanks for the education :)

Actually, it's a lot that's part of an entire auction. I'm not sure, but I think some AHs used to close the individual lots after 15 minutes but that doesn't allow for the sadistic sleep deprivation practices used by most AHs.
