Foxx - lets see them
1 Attachment(s)
I just looked at an email - PSA Insider - "A tale of 2 sluggers, Griffey & Foxx" Very nice write up on Foxx, perhaps undervalued. He could easily have had the single season HR record when he hit 58, but a few were taken away and also extra fences were up that were not up for Ruth. Foxx was a monster! Right up there with the best sluggers of all time!

And, all but 20 or so of his HRs came before he turned 34. Imagine if he had had a normal career trajectory.

Foxx has always been one of my favorites. Somewhat overlooked when talking about the greats.

Here he is during his post-career days. His career was the inspiration for the Jimmy Dugan character in A League Of Their Own, although his attitude was 180 degrees from that of Dugan. http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...pswhd5smal.jpg Tom C |

Jimmie Foxx undeniably deserved the moniker "The Beast". He put up some incredible numbers. It's too bad his early demise at age 59 came in such an inglorious manner.......

Spelling?

I am a bit surprised that we have gone this long without a discussion about how to spell XX's first name - is it Jimmy or Jimmie? (Or, did I just miss it?) Also a bit surprised that neither of these 1934 Butterfingers has been posted yet. (I don't know why they are different size in the scans; neither is Canadian as they are both the same size in real life.)

daaaaammn he's jacked!

Foxx and Gehrig were both proponents of weight training for baseball decades before it became acceptable. Here is Foxx in the 1939 offseason, ACME photo:
http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit..._%20Jimmie.jpg I know the signature is not Foxx but I like the card just fine nonetheless http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...by%20Burke.png BTW, Alan, that is a great snapshot; have you considered cleaning it? |
