Red Sox team sets and dabble in some vintage baseball (mostly 1950s at this point).

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Red Sox teams throughout history could keep a collector busy a long time....

Welcome Garth, you have discovered a fantastic place. And, dare I say, "party on".

(I am sure you have never heard that one before :D )

Hah... I still get that every now and then. I'm not worthy! :D

I'm starting with Topps. Once that's done, I'll have to figure it out. Amazingly enough, with Ted Williams not appearing from 1951-53, there isn't a card that hugely expensive, as opposed to doing a Yankee set, for instance.

Welcome aboard Garth!

Don't hesitate to ask the members questions as they have vast knowledge of everything you could imagine in the hobby.

I still find myself learning a lot.
.
Have fun!

You should purchase a Leaf Ted Williams - beauty of a card - one of my favorites.

That's one that is on my list. A little bit further down, though, as I've got a few others I'm after first.

So far the only problem with the boards here is that there's so much good stuff to keep track of, I'm always thinking I'm missing something. :)

I already ventured out into that realm for a Tris Speaker, perhaps my favorite card in my collection. :)

As I was reading the back of that card, I thought it was a poor choice of words to call him a "deadly" passer, since I knew he died quite young - then it even mentions his death on the card! Seems like they almost went out of their way to use "deadly."

A big part of why I collect the Red Sox team sets is to learn more about the history of the team and players, especially the lesser knowns such as Agganis, Jackie Jensen, Mel Parnell, etc. I also take whatever doubles (triples, etc.) and give them to my two boys, nephews and niece on their birthdays with a letter about the players and the teams they were on. It's been fun so far and maybe they'll take up the hobby themselves.
