Babe Ruth - Sporting News

Hi, I'm looking for some help and/or advice regarding this item.
It appears to be the top of a Sporting News easel back display from the 1920's- please see links below. I am trying to determine what interest there would be in the market for this sort of thing and a ballpark idea of what it is worth. It is from a house clean out in upstate New York. There are 6 holes around the perimeter and the back shows where it was separated from the easel. The bottom portion is gone. It matches the dimensions from the website below perfectly. It smells musty and is only in fair condition. Any help or advice is appreciated.

One in similar condition to yours sold a few years ago . I just don't remeber what auction house had it . in that condition , value is not going to be close to the ones you posted , but there still we be some interest cause of rarity

You should also post some photos of the piece on the memorabilia side. Unfortunately, these displays (including trimmed ones) are very often faked, so you'll want to verify the authenticity to help bring top dollar.

Hopefully, these photographs will help. I am certain this is original. The amount of wear is significant and the thing has a musty paper smell as well. It is interesting to look. The back has a lot of wear and it shows where the stand was attached (rectangular mark on the bottom with some remaining paper from when it was removed). Not in good shape, but interesting to see and unique from what I can find. What is it worth? That is what I am trying to determine.
Thanks,
Jon

Thanks - I appreciate you taking the time to flip that around. I got the thing posted and was out the door and was going to fix it at some point. Thank you.

Hi Jon
Neat piece. My response probably won't answer your question as to the value but in my opinion on a piece such as this is you won't know the value until after it sells at auction.

very cool piece...and not to be a contrarian or a downer here...but I dont really like the washed out look as compared to the other posted. Are we sure its authentic??? I don't think it is.
