Grading and value of the '89 UD Griffey
 
Looking to put together a HOF PSA set, I was looking up the '89 UD Griffey. This card has been graded at PSA 60,546 times! Am I correct to assume this is the most graded card of all time? Also, with 20000+ PSA 9 and 10 am i also safe to assume this card can only go backwards on value? I am not sure of the trend but I would assume the PSA graded cards will eventually clear 100,000. What is everyone opinion on the future and price action of this card?

go down ..you are starting to see people sell them in LOTs 10-50 of them in a LOT.....thats not a good sign

Not sure if it will go up much more but it is an iconic card much like
A 1952 mantle, both extremely over valued but demand is extremely high?

Like the 52 Mantle it was also double printed. Just way too many out there to not go down in price.

I'm under the belief that $50 and $300 are the long term levels for 9's and 10's respectively, though both will get a small bump this month and this summer. The card was printed too heavily to rise and hold much higher, but as the most iconic card of a generation the popualrity itself can sustain those prices. If you paid $300 for one now it's not going to be $1000 in 10-15 years, but it's also not going to be $50 or $100.

Sidenote: I think BGS 9.5's are actually a good buy at ~$200, a price they can easily be found at.

I started collecting in 89 as a kid, and this was such a cool card back then. It still is. Despite the high pop there will always be enough people who want to own one. And it's his best rookie card. I don't see it going down.

Almost universally ungraded. A little tougher than some modern issues to get a 10 with this card (respectively), but easy to pick the good from the trash. The biggest issues that effect this card (the snow print defect, the holo, and l/r centering) can be picked out in seconds. If you win a lot of ten or more, you are most likely buying someone's 7's and 8's.
just doesn't seem any upside..if you love the card and the player then who cares about money..but for money and not to lose...for the 200-250 range id rather have a 1954 jacke robinson psa 6 as one example

I have two PSA 10s, one I bought when they were about $200, the second I got two weeks later, pulled from a box of leaf best of baseball. I think the box cost around $200 so it was a wash. I don't think I'll be selling either any time soon. I'm not holding them for investment potential, I just really enjoy having that card. It seems there are plenty of others of the same mindset. That or they're hoping for a bump when he's elected to the HOF.

I don't know that there is really much speculation going on with regard to price appreciation of an '89 Upper Deck Griffey. Maybe there is some speculating going on with PSA 10s at $300, but how many people are buying PSA 9s for $40-50 as an investment?

PSA 9s can be had on eBay for $40 if a buyer is careful. At that price, how much investment speculation is really involved? If a $40 card goes to $0, then so be it.

I have an '85 Jordan Nike promo card. That card is worth less than $100 in PSA 8, but it is one of my favorite cards because it is where the iconic Jordan Jumpman logo came from. I don't think there is much upside there, other than PSA 10s, but I didn't buy that card because I think it is going to skyrocket in value. The '89 Upper Deck Griffey is an iconic card in the hobby, even if the card is not worth a lot of money.

PSA has graded 1,129 of them.

I think it was on another forum I visit, but I remember a guy sending in a beat up, creased card to PSA. As planned, he got a PSA 1.
The only PSA 1 89 UD Junior.
Planned to bill it as such and sell on Ebay.
