As a Chief Bender type collector I am always interested in what might be out there. So go ahead and show us what you have. I'll lead off the top of the first and I apologize in advance for the glare.

The other W600 pose
|
|
I have always heard that Carl Horner took many of the photographs for the W600 set, but cannot confirm that.
|
Many of his photos were used for sure, but the Bender is not Horner.

for comparison.....This is from my 1903 Horner Composite... |
Horner took the photo used on the W600 in uniform so it(the image) dates to 1903 or so. The Suit pose on the W600 and the Lincoln PC appears to be a younger Bender, however the PC is a 1906/07 issue. Yet another quandry is that the Horner uniform W600 is on a later mount than the Suit pose. Anyone confused yet :)
I have no idea who might have taken the image. |
That framed collection is beautiful. Good job!

Did a little research this afternoon and I believe the photographer of the Bender (and all the LP's) was MacIntire Studios of Philadelphia. Think they all came from the same photo session, here's the original photo of Mack... http://www.robertedwardauctions.com/...2010/1180.html and the LP Mack... http://photos.imageevent.com/bicem/l.../LP%20Mack.jpg Sorry to go OT, just thought it was interesting. |
Sadly I used to own that Mack cabinet and let it go... for what reason I can't grasp.
However the Mack image on his W600's do not match the Lincoln PC ??? So,, I did some comparing, Only Bender, Henley, Murphy, Plank and Powers use the same image on the Lincoln as on their W600 counterpart. So MacIntire may have done all of the photos for the Lincoln issue, but not the W600 A's |

The framed Bender collection is beautiful. But how do you "update" the frame with new acquisitions?

Jeff, it is an interesting question on who the photographer was. Definitely Horner on the uniform, but thanks for shedding light on the street clothes varietal.
Other Jeff, cool Ju Ju Drum! As for updating the collection, it was designed to be simple. The items are in cases or sleeves which are mounted behind the glass. It is an old window with the mat mounting on the front and the cards on back. I rotate items out regularly, the Stetson hats postcard and Reach catalog are the most recent additons. Speaking of additions, I just received this Bender Piedmont Art Stamp in the mail today. If you have to have significant paper loss on the front I can't imagine it being better camouflaged than on this card. Great stuff guys, keep it coming! Can anyone show me a Bender Rose Postcard just for proof of existence? |

One Of The Last Balls Thrown By Bender In A Major League Game
http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...psrofiy8gg.jpg
This ball represents the last run given up and the last home run given up during the actual part of Bender's major league career. He did pitch one bullshit inning 8 years later as a coach but that shouldn't really count. It is definitely the ball that caused the last loss.of his career. It is also the last run he gave up as a pitcher for a Philadelphia team. The two run homerun by controversial Benny Kauff turned a 1-0 deficit in the 8th into a 2-1 victory. The victory clinched the 1917 pennant for the Giants, and this is the ball that propelled them to victory. Tom C |

Here's a link to more Bender-related items including a letter from Hall of Fame president Paul Kerr writing to Chief three weeks before Bender's death. The website has pages for all Hall of Famers and nearly 200 other guys. CooperstownExpert.com |

Thanks Scott. Two ways I protect it, first I put in a low light room and second I used Museum Glass with UV protection.
Here is a labeled photo of the display. The M101-4 has since rotated out for a D359 Rochester Baking. Attachment 276287 |
