I present to you Art Whitney

Or is it Grasshopper Whitney?

Or maybe it's just good ole G. Whitney

Actually, his name is Charles Whitney. Thanks for trying though!

Well, the first two examples have no good excuse, that is simply the wrong identification. The third example (SGC) followed the OJ book which is better than 99% accurate, but your identification is due to more recent research. Can you share your research story?

I'd love to say I was the one who found out his name when I saw it in an old Sporting Life magazine, BUT when I went to his Baseball-Reference page to report it, his name was already up. So someone beat me to it.

Interestingly, baseball reference lists Whitney as having played for both the Scranton Indians and the Binghamton Crickets of the Int'l Assoc. in 1887. However, Marshall Wright's book does not list Whitney on either team.
I wonder how he is identified in TSN either in the box scores, the articles, or in the pre-season reserve lists.
