Gotta Love N172 Old Judge Identifications
I present to you Art Whitney
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1887-OLD-JUD...EAAOSwAKxWX6u2 Or is it Grasshopper Whitney? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1887-N172-Ol...MAAOSwys5WWRIe Or maybe it's just good ole G. Whitney http://www.ebay.com/itm/1887-Old-Jud...YAAOSwu-BWP7ev Actually, his name is Charles Whitney. Thanks for trying though! |
Well, the first two examples have no good excuse, that is simply the wrong identification. The third example (SGC) followed the OJ book which is better than 99% accurate, but your identification is due to more recent research. Can you share your research story?

Interestingly, baseball reference lists Whitney as having played for both the Scranton Indians and the Binghamton Crickets of the Int'l Assoc. in 1887. However, Marshall Wright's book does not list Whitney on either team.
I wonder how he is identified in TSN either in the box scores, the articles, or in the pre-season reserve lists. |
