Ebay bin opinion

Just looking for opinions on a situation I found myself in this weekend.

I came across an early 1950's HOF card on Ebay this weekend that usually sells for around $40.00 and had a Buy it Now price of $.99 cents. So I hit BIN and paid for it right away.

About an hour later I receive an email from the seller that Ebay put the ad up by mistake. He was putting other cards up and using this ad as his boiler plate for the other ads. He also said he sold the card "offline" and didn't even have it to send to me. He offered to send me about $5.00 worth of cards from the same series.

I've always held to my bidding and selling commitments on Ebay although a few times I second guessed a few bids I placed and won and some low sale prices for some items I sold.

What is the seller's obligation? Should I just be a nice guy and say don't worry about it and refund my money or should I ask for a similar valued card or?

I have not contacted Ebay at this time. Thanks in advance for any opinions. Tom

Give him a positive ooops

It looks like it was an obvious pricing error. He probably meant to start it via a .99 cent auction instead of a BIN. I would let it slide.

Just take the refund.

It seems like a pricing error that is pretty obvious to both of you. I would just be fair and take the refund. It happens a decent amount. In the last few months I saw a red Cobb sell for $200 and a Cy Young portrait for $100. In both cases the cards were re-listed at fair prices. I think sellers should be allowed to make a mistake like that every once in awhile and not be severely punished for it.

Mistakes happen. Take the comp cards and move on.

Like you said just be a "good guy", it'll make you feel great.

Cut th seller some slack. Mistakes happen.

Just a processing error upon listing and quite obvious. I've done the same thing several times before but thus far have been able to change or end the listing within a few minutes before someone grabs it and demands delivery.

I agree take the high road. Just emailed him and told him to issue the refund. Thanks for the input and have a great holiday season.

e bay mistake

an honest mistake
however, the comment about : I already sold card off line....could be BS..he just wanted to reinforce ..your not getting card..... uh... I don't have it anymore ..

eliminator 11-23-2015 08:43 PM

I agree that he still has card. He probably meant to start auction at .99 cents and hit bin.

Obvious listing error. I did the same thing a few years back with a lot of Major Matt Mason toys worth hundreds of dollars that I accidentally listed with a $9.99 BIN. When you list on ebay through their system the template stays with the last item you listed...I had been listing $9.99 BIN's a day or so before I listed the Matt Mason lot. Someone hit my BIN immediately and I refunded him and told him of my error. SOB still left me a negative.
