goodwin results
Some astronomical results last night. that WWG gehrig is the nicest i've ever seen. a bargain compared to other high grade 50's rookies imo.
|
I agree
always loved that gehrig and do feel it is underpriced. For the record I do own one so it may be why i am a little biased towards the card.

There were some great Tinker, Evers and Chance cards in this auction, from rare to high grade. The Evers 1914 CJ was the nicest I think I've seen.
|
Yes, that Evers CJ went super-high--for an SGC....So looks and centering does matter, I guess....
The t206 Hindu SLs went very high, including a PSA 6 Breitenstein that went for 4000.... I almost got an Evers red Colgan's, which went for a good price. There was a Felix Mendelsohn PSA 4 Doak that I also almost got, also a good price...a PSA 5 Hoffman, Novelty Cutlery, was a big bargain and I should have grabbed.... Glad to see sky-high price for a Rose Co. postcard HOFer since I also have one.... So mix of good prices and very high... |
Not to hijack this thread to OTsville, but as I was watching the countdown clock on some of the lots, I realized that since that Geico commercial, the intro to the song "The Final Countdown" has lived rent-free in my head. Am I the only one who has been so strickened?

Looks like the 52 Mays is getting a nice bump as well.
$4400 is a very strong price for a slightly off centered 6. |

Excited here with my first M101-4 Sporting News. I put in one more bid increment before calling it quits for the night, and sure enough, either someone tried to steal it late into extended bidding, or it was shilled up to my maximum bid. :D

Some of the prices Goodwin&Co attained last night were INSANE!!!!! Have they replaced PWCC as the consignor of choice now??

I just got through perusing the Goodwin auction results, interesting as always, and was surprised at the somewhat flat prices achieved for the Cracker Jack lots, in particular the '14 Frank Chance. I have always, like so many, loved CJ cards; the color, smell, feel and, of course, the wonderful player images. The Chance, in my opinion, is one of the iconic cards in the whole set most probably due to the fact he only appeared in the '14 set, being replaced in '15 by Hal Chase. This important fact was not even mentioned in Goodwin's description, which I felt was a shocking omission. I believe, but am not sure, he was the only HOF'er dropped for the '15 set. His solid PSA 5 card #54 only fetched $2963. I wonder if this is a price trend starting to emerge for these popular cards?

On the other hand, record price for the Evers NM, and that's for an SGC, no less. Prices on CJ all over the map in recent auctions, not plunging but no longer the go-go era....

I see far more disappointing results than the other way around.

I think the Chance went low, but I don't think 1915 prices are dropping. The 1914 CJ are all about set collectors and when 3-or 4 emerge at the same time, you get what we got in 2014 w/ prices calming down again recently. 1915s keep rising, look at the recent prices in auction on the Jacksons alone in the past few months. 1915s will always be the poor mans 1914s, but 1915s can attract many more collectors b/c you wont pay 4-figures for names like Cady, Pratt, Shotten, etc... |
Always interested in seeing lists of disappointing lots...ones that really sank, not merely met market value and so were "disappointing" to those who hoped for a killing....anyone want to post?
