Tobin, three complete sets.

I have been collecting 1887 Tobin lithographs for quite some time. About ten years ago I completed the colored set and several years later completed the extremely difficult matching white set. I even collected a few of the rare 149 comic set. There are nine known cards in that set. Every few years I would find an additional card. Recently, I acquired the last card I needed. This might be the first 149 set ever put together.

Great display and set!

Ever since I first saw examples of these, I fell in love with them. They aren't easy to find and the 149 cards are very difficult to find. But admittedly I am a novice in collecting these. :)

Do you prefer the cards with or without the advertising? My preference is 'with', which gives the cards a bit more character.

Monumental

accomplishment! The color set on it's own quite difficult but a fair number of sets have been assembled - the white set - you obviously had patience, luck, and a friend or two on your side.

Nice work. We don't see many posts about 19th century cards.

I've had a few of these individually pass through my hands, but never seen sets like this! Incredible.

Very Impressive!!!

I just Love the Comic Trade's from the 1800's...

Well Done!, Congrats! Do you believe there was a 10th 149 produced? I hope you find and obtain a copy if it exists.

Very nice. Congratulations.

That's an awesome collection, thank you for sharing them with us!

Edited to add I was just happy being able to add this pair to my type collection. That is quite an accomplishment putting that set of 149 together!

Ron S's BB trade card guide

is the most up to date catalog I know of. My copy packed away - next time I write him I'll hopefully remember to ask him.

I am a casual collector, just a bit haphazard (okay, a lot) in trying to key in on a certain set, year, etc. and I could never accomplish a set such as these. But I sure do enjoy when folks share their collection(s) so I can admire them and see the work they have put into getting this far along. I really enjoy the members of this forum and what they take pride in sharing. Congratulations!

Thanks for all the nice compliments. I never thought I would complete the set. It would seem that there should be a 10th card to the set given that the other two have 10. But Frank Keetz's book on trade cards only lists the nine. Maybe some day a 10th will show up.
