+2. I am in a military family. They seem to be vastly unappreciated lately. With the absurdly long wait times at the VA hospital, the cut in benefits for them, and burger flippers wanting more than what our military makes, it is sort of disheartening. I appreciate them more than anything though. Thank you veterans!

Thank you and may we never forget. Because of the past and present sacrifices of our veterans we at home, along with our families, can live the lives we do.

My grandfather served in Korea and bought my grandmother a wedding ring before left, not knowing if he'd ever come back. Today my fiancé wears the ring and I bear his name. Thank you to all who serve.

Don, Larry, Anthony, Zach, Bob, and other Vets on here,

Thanks for your service. As an overseas combat Veteran myself (Afghanistan 2010-2011) and 25 year Army Soldier, I think I speak for other Vets also in saying thanks to all that recognize Veterans and their sacrifices.

Thank you all,

Mike

Thanks for keeping us safe, guys!

Has anyone noticed a trend in recent years of businesses not treating Veterans' Day as a business holiday? My wife's job [w/a Fortune 500 company] does not give it as a paid holiday, for example. As I recall when I was a kid in the 1970s and 1980s everyone's offices were closed and every office I worked in until 1994 treated it as a paid holiday. On that last job the boss did not want to give it but was shamed into it by a vet on staff. Then again, he also tried to make everyone who wasn't Christian work on Christmas Day. I said fine, I'll take the 8 days each of Hanukkah and Passover as paid time off instead. He reconsidered.

Jim,

I see you were stationed at Plattsburgh. That is right across the lake from me and I used to go there for PX and Commissary privileges. As you may have known the base closed just after you left in 1995 and as early as 1996, the major runway hosted a Phish concert with 70,000 fans! (No F-16s were harmed or involved in that concert!) :)

Now, the base has a bunch of businesses on it and I think housing also for civilians.

Take care, Mike
