What is this Mantle?

My buddy's uncle passed and he had a huge collection of vintage. I know what 90% of it is, but unsure of this. Any help?

Topps had a bunch of those, similar to the Gallery of Champions boxed sets they sold in the 80s that were bonus pieces for ordering cases, I believe. Could it be one of those? I think the 52 mantle was a subject one year, but not sure if it was gold now.

Beckett states:http://www.beckett.com/baseball/1986...-of-champions/ This 12 card set features various 1985 league leaders or award winners. For the second straight year, these replica cards were issued in either aluminum, bronze or silver. The cards measure approximately 1 1/4" by 1 3/4" and we have sequenced the set in alphabetical order. The bronze cards are valued at 2X to 4X the aluminum cards while the silvers have a value between 5X and 10X of the aluminums. The question is to the OP: Whether its Bronze, Gold or other? http://www.baseball-cards.com/jpgs/o/g52-mantle.jpg |
I think it is the Topps gallery. The first link to Amazon appears to be a card (standard, full sized), where as the photo of the item in question is a mini metal "card".

1986 v 1992
I have a run of the Gallery Of Champions sets 1984 to 1991 in each metal ( Immortals in 1984). In most years the 12 card "sets" came in silver, bronze and aluminum. In several years one of the 12 players was also produced in pewter as a premium for dealers who did well in the product. There was no Mantle associated with the sets, all current players.
But in 1986 Topps did produce a bronze Mantle premium that was given to dealers purchasing cases of Traded sets late in the year. The 1996 "gold" mini Mantles ( 22 carat foil) have serial numbers on the back ( 50,000). Not sure how it was issued/distributed. Other premium bronzes for dealers moving Traded sets included Carlton in 1983, Strawberry in 84, Rose in 85, Mays ( 53) IN 87, Snider (55) in 88, J Robinson (52) in 89, Aaron ( 54) in 90, B Robinson (57) in 91 ( last one I have) |
