A sort of decent fake E90-1 Young
Obviously a card that I love and here is one that I don't love ..... It is a reprint even though it's from a deceased brother. It just looks all wrong and almost any experienced collector can pick this one right off. But with a great feedback seller an inexperienced collector could be fooled. The corners, toning and print are all "off"....

Right off the bat, the cardboard stock ain't right.

Seller's "brother" did a very good job "aging" card. Unfortunately, he forgot the most important aspect of faking E90-1s: ALWAYS remember to have paper loss right were the "20" is above the 100.
Sarcasm aside, most fakes have the "20" mark. It may seem elementary, but good to know. |
It was found DEEP in the closet!! Was his brother a reprint collector?
|
I have never seen an instance in which a seller says "I cannot vouch for authenticity" and thought it was a good sign.

"Sorry about the crop on the back side; it's because Ebay." |
Funny how the crop is right over where the word "reprint" appears on E90-1 reprints, such as the Young offered below. What a coincidence!

I left a "review" for the card and noted that it's a fake. The seller is clearly a Bad Person Who Lies A Lot.
This review feature would be a handy way to identify fakes, but I see that eBay doesn't make it available for all items. You can bet that the sellers will complain about bad reviews and eBay will end up scrapping it, since they hate aggravation more than anything else... |

eBay's Review Feature
Quote:
I felt like I should point out that a "review" on eBay doesn't just apply to the specific listing. It's part of eBay's catalog so it will pop up on all items that use the catalog entry. It's particularly useful for books or something like that, but reviews specific to the card or seller are going to show up on other listings that use eBay's catalog. For example, this perfectly fine '53T Mantle PSA 3, but the listing is pulling up a review which was made in February to point out a fake. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1953-Topps-8...wo6lWKZWI#rwid Just wanted to point out that the review feature probably should not be used this way, as it could have an adverse effect on future listings of genuine cards and honest sellers. Good info, thanks Justin
