Who was George Fergerson?

I thought every player produced in the Ullman postcard series was a 1905 NY Giant outside of the Chicago team postcard. I haven't found any roster or stats that include a George Fergerson from 1905 (nor 1904 or 1906 for that matter). Who was George Fergerson? Surely this wasn't mislabeled and is someone else?

I think it is mislabled based on a error that had the first name wrong in the Standard Catalog. I believe it is actually Cecil Ferguson.

Cecil Ferguson not on the 1905 Giants Team?

Am I missing something... Cecil Ferguson is not listed on the 1905 Giants roster of which these cards supposedly picture except for one? "All cards of 1905 Champion Giants except Cubs team card"

JustinD 10-13-2015 03:27 PM

I just assumed they were the 1906 roster when they were produced. However, calling them the "world's champions" as they were the reigning champs till someone else wins.

Fitzgerald is part of this set too, and was not on the 1905 team.

Looking at the roster you can add Henry Mathewson to the list of 1906 players not playing on the 1905 team too. No matter what the designation says, that's the 1906 team.

Ahhhh... Ok, I'm with you now.

Back then, they referred to the team that won the WS the previous year as "World Champions". So, the 1906 Giants would be "World Champions".

Today, we'd call them "Reigning Champions".

Several of the cards in the set depict players wearing uniforms with the words "World Champions" on them. For me that is an indication that the pics used show the 1906 team.

Thanks for all the replies. It would seem it must be Cecil Ferguson. In fact I found a couple reference sites referring to him as George Cecil Ferguson. Not many other images to go off of...the Ramly would also be three years later. But the Ramly is also labeled as George.
