52 Topps

I have a few question I need to ask for my brother who doesn't own a computer. Is there anywhere I can send scans of his 52 Topps baseball collection so he can get some close idea as to its value? He doesn't trust most companies so he would like a near estimate before he commits to sending his cards away. I am a hockey card guy that is also leery of sending my collection through the mail. I know his collection is extremely valuable as he has both Mantle versions as well as every other high value card, along with many of the black back versions. It is a near complete set along with many doubles he collected when he was a kid. He is getting to the point he wants to sell but he doesn't want to be skinned alive either. If he were to send them to PSA how can he verify he will get his cards back? Is it entirely a trust issue? If he flies there will he be able to stay with his cards for the entire process? I am going to his place in a few weeks and I can bring my scanner there to get scans of his set.

Unless he finds a private buyer, he's going to have to send them somewhere at some point. If the cards are legit and he has 2 '52 Mantles, he'll have no problem getting a dealer to fly to him to buy them. Just post scans on this board.

Legit?

Thank you for the quick response. But you touched on exactly what our concern is. You wonder if we are legit...as you should. But isn't that the same concern we have? Will a dealer give us a legit offer based on actual condition? I suspect they will give real lowball offer based on a low conditon. Are the grading companies legit? You can now see our problem, a lack of trust! We are small town folk who hate getting ripped off. The defense for that is to get as near a guesstimate as possible. That is why we want to post scans and get opinions from a wide variety of people.

There are a ton of smart honest collectors and dealers here who based on your scans will give you a load of feedback which you can then use to find the right means to sell. Also there are great auction houses and big dealers who use this forum. Also you can check out sold eBay listings and there are sites which will give you final prices of similar cards.

Agree with Dennis, post the scans in the "Postwar Baseball Cards Forum (Pre-1980)" and ask what people think of value and condition. Great bunch of guys on this site.
