Need Help with a Ruth Image
1 Attachment(s)
I am trying to do some research on this card that was recently sold by Heritage Auctions as part of the Leon Luckey collection. This specific tour that Ruth took with Carl Mays came at the end of the 1920 season, so this image was surely taken sometime during the 1920 regular season. Has anyone ever seen the original or know any other specifics about it? I really appreciate any help.

Good luck with more ID Kevin. It's certainly a great and seldom (if ever) seen pose of his. I much preferred it over the other pose of the 2 from the "set" known.

Thanks Leon. Here is the other card from the "set." The photo that was used for this card was also featured in a July 20, 1920 newspaper.
From my limited research, there is one example known of the throwing pose and two of the batting pose. Does anyone know of any other examples of these "cards"? How about any other poses? |

Those are both amazing cards. I agree the one in the auction of him throwing was the better image of the 2. Image quality was a little sharper on the throwing card I think and a rare/unique? image as stated.
However, Graig Kreindler really brought that other image to life!.... |
Wow, that Kreindler painting is absolutely amazing. I never get tired of looking at his work.
Thanks for posting that Erick. |

No problem! It's one of my favorites Graig has done (I don't own it unfortunately but have a beautiful Ruth Kreindler of my own!). He may (probably) knows more as to the origins on that image I would think.
Just noticed the first image was one where the painting wasn't finished yet. This is a close up of the finished work from Graig's site. I'd suggest checking it out for some amazing Ruth images! |
