2015 Topps error card - Patrick Corbin

I picked up a factory set of 2015 Topps yesterday and used it to finish off my set. I can across something that confuses me a bit. Can someone help out.

I have two different versions of card #558 Patrick Corbin. The one on the left I got out of packs, the one on the right is from the factory set.

The backs are identical (including the code). The card on the left is the same photo as #116 Vidal Nuno.

I haven't seen anything about the error on line yet.

Neat find Mark. In older sets there have been cases where Topps got the photo of a player wrong. Sometimes they corrected them and sometimes not. I think in some of the Heritage sets there have been intentional SP player errors.

Factory sets tend to come from latter print runs, so maybe it was a corrected error

Wow, to me that's a heck of an error. In 2015 I didn't think it possible to use the wrong photo on a card.

Haven't seen that one mentioned anywhere I visit either. The three on COMC are all the Nuno picture, and since that's the one in circulation from packs, that doesn't surprise me.

One does have to wonder if Topps had any forethought on this. In order to get the corrected card you have to buy the factory set....How convenient.

Topps definitely puts deliberate variations to increase sales. for the past 4 or 5 years at least about 20 Photo variations in each series Plus those in update series. I am putting together a 2012 Master set and having fun doing it in fact added a card last week a SSP Pujols BGS 9.5. And in 2007 the Jeter/Bush error was not corrected until the factory set so this is SOP for Topps these days. Good catch..

Well, they do put in "error" cards as an homage to errors of the past in Archives and Heritage, but not in the Topps flagship set. This one may have just slipped past them through most of production, and then they made the correction quietly. If they wanted to drive sales of the boxed set (which most people don't even open), they would have put it out there that there was a corrected card.

Sports Collectors Daily mentioned this card on their Facebook page, and I submitted a request for COMC to note that it is the error version (they only have three) and that the corrected version may get mailed in.

Has anyone seen the Patrick Corbin from the team sets to know which player is pictured?

I realize it's different numbering but it could also be an error card.

jasondeanmartin 09-05-2015 06:19 AM

I picked up a handful of the team set Corbins and they also picture Nuno, not Corbin.

I can also say that finding a correct Corbin version has been difficult as I have only been able to purchase one copy and I had to buy a team set that someone was selling from a broken-up factory set.

Anyone know what the factory only parallel of Corbin looks like (who's pictured)?

darkhorse9.......what did the box look like from the factory set you purchased that had the corrected Corbin card?

Also, everyone can read what I've found out so far about this card here (https://sportscardreference.wordpres...ed-variations/).

Thanks to darkhorse9 for bringing this to our attention.

My factory box included the rookie pose variation set.

If you are referring to the #/179, it is the error. I have 10/179. No pictures, but I am sure I can get one if you need it.

jasondeanmartin 09-17-2015 06:18 PM

Any interest in selling it?

Interesting that this variation is still not listed in the Beckett price guide.

Let's not forget that the 2007 Jeter Error card that was sold in packs picturing President Bush just like this it was corrected only in factory sets. And the corrected version has little value so not the first error Topps has corrected in factory sets. Will it drive some collectors Yes will the card have significant value ???

2007

The Jeter/Bush card was clearly not an error card. It was an intentional variation, similar to the Topps 2012 squirrel or no squirrel card. Not sure if Corbin was an error/mistake, or intentional...or whether we will ever know.

If the corrected version is in all factory set.s and if the corrected version does carry a premium in the short run, a lot of folks with factory sets may break it out
;)

Will it hold a ton of value....probably not. But, it will most likely be a scarce card nonetheless since it's only available in factory sets, many of which will remain sealed.

Not all about the $ for me on this one.
