T206 Jack Chesbro question

I am a new member with an old card collection - glad to part of the Forum.

I'm thinking about sending in my Chesbro to be graded. Any recommendations as to PSA or SGC?

Nice card. If resale value matters, then PSA is your best bet. If you plan on keeping it, it's more a matter of personal preference as to how you like the way cards look in the holders.

Nice card indeed.

Will be interesting to see if you get a OC designation from PSA. Front is dead centered, but the back is not.

Others know more than I do (especially about recent PSA standard improvements), but I have seen inconsistent treatment on back centering. Sometimes I see OC. Sometimes I don't.

Good luck,
Patrick

Beautiful card. Either company is fine. Let us know what it grades.
I'm predicting a 6.

Are you sure the card isn't trimmed?

PSA all the way. SGC holders while they look great don't protect your investment adequately as the cards continue to slip behind the black gaskets.

My thoughts, too. Top edge????

I HOPE I'm wrong! GREAT CARD!

Hoping Kevin will chime in on this.

I bought the card in 1998 at Sportsworld-USA in Boston from an old-time collection that had just come into the store. I have never had it authenticated.

As already stated, PSA resale is considerably better.

I'm guessing a 7(OC) or an AUTH - Evidence of Trimming. The T/B centering is too strong to get it anything better, IMO. If you don't want a qualifier, then SGC will probably be best for this card. It's very nice.

Wow, tough front/back combo to boot! OM on a 150 subject.

I think it's a PSA 6/SGC 80. I don't believe it to be trimmed.

The bottom left looked off to me. Looking at the front scan, I held a piece of computer paper up against the bottom edge, and the bottom left hangs down just a bit. You can eyeball it and see it a little better from the back scan.

Overall it's a great looking card & having an Old Mill back makes it better. Any grade card company that gives this a numerical grade will be rewarding. However, there's a possibility the bottom edge could to be altered.

I believe it is trimmed. But for your sake I hope it isn't....

I hope it isn't trimmed, but it looks like the bottom of the card might be.

Keep us posted. Great looking card.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a card with such different conditions of the top compared to the bottom (corners and edges) which wasn't trimmed.

drmondobueno 07-31-2015 08:23 AM

Bottom looks too clean compared to the top edges. Have you looked through a loupe? Suspect trimming.

Hard to be definite from a scan, but the top is also high to the right in proportion to the bottom left, meaning I see a slight diamond cut. Also lots of room left on the bottom back. I would need to see the edges of the card to be sure.
