No More Titusitus?
Looks like a Titus hoarder is cleaning out their closet.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/371382653717...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I've been noticing too that Titus prices have gone down...possibly the "hoarding" has stopped. |
Wow
That's a curious decision to say the least. Titus cards have fallen slightly but are still holding pretty strong. A PSA 3.5 just went for a little over $400.00. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-11-T206...item5d5a38ea3a
The seller can do what he/she wants (and maybe they just wanted the money), but unloading ten all at once of a popular card seems like a bad idea. I'm interested in seeing what the final tally is - have to imagine there'd be a better return in breaking them up and selling over the course of a few weeks one at a time. |
Yeah, this auction seems like a bad idea. I know a lot of set collectors that want 1 Titus card, why make them purchase 10 to get it? Another oddity, the title only lists PSA 1 POOR when the grades go up to VG.
|
no this makes sense, this is someone that has some titus cards, but NOT the main hoarder, IMO, he is forcing the main horder to buy all 10 or none.
|
That would be my guess too. Force a bidding war with someone else who figures, hey I only need 1 and I'll just sell the other 9.

hoarding vs. collecting

You all will know when my collection goes to market when an ebay powerseller has 10 of these in one auction...So far I only have 3 of this pose #...

The Titus hoarder hasn't bid on any in several months so he probably won't
be pushing up the price on this lot. |
Titus-itis certainly seems to have dropped in recent months. A couple days ago,a Titus PSA 4 sold for $223.50 and the one that really seemed surprising was a Titus lot that included a decent T-206 selling for just $102.50 earlier this week.
The Titus Polar Bear that sold for $400 recently definitely seems to be anomaly to the softening of Titus pricing in recent weeks and months. A Titus T-206 in very good+ condition sold for $148 on eBay last month. There for a while, Titus beaters in horrible shape were selling for that much. I kinda figured this latest lot of 10 Titus T-206s and the earlier lot that included various Titus cards from different sets came from the big lot of Tituses in REA's auction earlier this year. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...p2045573.m1684 |

I guess we'll find out once the auction closes if it was a wise move or not. Probstein just got over $100 for a PSA 1 and considering that six of the ten cads in this lot are PSA 2-3, individually, they should have brought a nice return. |

I would be surprised if the lot tops $1k. Can't imagine $100 a card for a common, no matter how popular.

Still waiting to buy a Titus PSA 5 for $100-150. Which is what the card would be worth under normal supply/demand conditions (by that I mean nor hoarding).
I don't expect I'll have to wait too much longer. Sorry to those who bought into Titusmania. |
What is really going on: Tom Selleck has been forced to sell off his Titus hoard so that he can buy water for his ranch now that he will no longer be able to steal it after getting busted.
|
I don't think 10 Titus's is going to make a dent in the population.....

It's fun watching the bid amount versus the page visits - $688 vs 701. I'm assuming that is a pretty high count. Anybody have a lot that hit 1000 visits?
|
The original premise of this thread may be incorrect. The next bid will push the auction over $1000 with four hours to go.
Oh wait, I forgot, they are in PSA holders so they must be a bargain.:rolleyes::rolleyes: Say what????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :eek: |
3 hrs and 15 minutes left, up to $995.
|
Man#! I was going to buy these but this thread has totally driven up the price!!!
Nah, I'm kidding. I don't care. :-) |
"Nobody bids on these anymore. They are too popular" - Yogi Berra :D:D

I hope you are right because I need one :) A nice graded 4-5 would fit nicely in my collection (hint to anyone who has one available). |

http://www.cardtarget.com/cgi-bin/gm...submit=Display It certainly wasn't from the supply side of the equation. There was always plenty available just didn't want to pay a 20% premium for a common. My mistake. I don't ever see prices getting to the point where he trades like a common. If supply ever floods the market, I can tell you I will own a dozen of these before it ever gets to common pricing. Demand has been stoked. Can't get the genie back in the bottle. |
They popped back up with a crazy high BIN, all as one lot. Very interesting decision by the buyer, imo.

Yeah, this was a bizarre decision. Win at auction from Probstein, then immediately relist with same images and expect to double the money?

nice addition to the ebay museum

I guess the original buyer of the 10 lot is trying to break it up into smaller lots. http://www.ebay.com/itm/T206-JOHN-TI...torefresh=true

This has been such an over rated card for years now. It all started with one collector who was hoarding them, and the mystique of Titus being the only player with a mustache. There are tons of Titus cards out there, having said that, it is extremely scarce in very high grades (7 and higher)...

Titus was tied for 366th out of 524 in terms of difficulty in my 100K+ study from 2008 - 2013.
That study was based on sales counts from eBay and other major public sites. Feeling charitable, I am prepared to pay $200 for a PSA 5. That offer will go to $175 in another six months. Mr. Wonderful:) |

I was kinda waiting for him to reveal that he liquidated his position in Titus' mustache just before the price crashed. ;) |
