Super Specialists:
In this age of lengthy bullpens, certain statistics become very strange:
For the longest time, I thought that Tony Fossas would be the all-time leader in fewest innings per game appearance with 415.2 innings in 567 games. However, today's group of lefty-vs-lefty specialists have spawned at least two who out-do Tony: Randy Choate with 392 innings squeezed into just 629 games & Javier Lopez has crammed 485 innings into 724 appearances. They should invent an award for these guys. Call it the 'John Caliperi One and You're Done' Award. Question: Why do you suppose there aren't any righty-vs-righty specialists? It only seems logical since the majority of hitters are right-handed. |
