These three are all missing colors, though the Baker is not identified as such on the flip:

Sean,
Those missing reds are pretty awesome. Have you thought about going for a "copper background" run? That would be something to behold. Scot |

I have a few Hindu backs that appear orange rather than red, but these seem to be a common feature of Hindus for some reason. |

Coles I think is just faded, but still....

Nice cards, Ted. Thanks for showing. I especially like the Kling that doesn't know if he wants to be normal or copper. Scot

No red pass or fading... Either way that s card is a keeper.
|
That's interesting Ted. That Willis looks just like Luke's Willis, but his has a Hindu back (which frequently is light colored). Your card has a Piedmont.

|
I love that
:eek:McBride:eek:.....
OMG I love This Thread:eek: I will post some goodies soon:) |
I've never seen that McBride before. That's a great one. :)

I wish you could join us in Chicago. Maybe next year in AC. :D

Question about color variations.
To me the only true color variations are scraps or cards that missed a color pass, like the Bates no red ink variations. Otherwise to me the other variations are merely cards that didn't hold up well overtime due to being exposed to the sun or a chemical effect due to glue on the back of the card. Am I right? Although I do admit there does seem to be some consistency with many Hindus where the backgrounds are normally red but they are more an orange color when it comes to their Hindu back variety. |

Sean....
I will be in AC 2016!
I plan on displaying "THE CIRCUS":D........... Nasti Nat..... your are almost 100 % correct....a real dramatic color variations are usually SCRAPPY.......... Most other factory cuts are due to environment post printing(chemical, sun fade, ect).... there are many boston players including Sweeney "NO B" which fall under the "missing magenta" category which are legit.... and there are some other factory cut cards which are legit missing a pass or 2.... so, the answer is....there is a"mix" of 100 % legit variations and environmentally "altered" variations....that's where an expert is of value |
some legit ones....

Missing pass of magenta seems to get people excited... but here is the counterpart, an EXTRA pass of magenta. I know this doesn't excite people as much, but to me it is more interesting since it couldn't have been done by fading.
I was buying up Bob Grooms for a little bit to see if I could find another to no avail (this scan is when I had only 4 extras to scan 2 on each side). Of the dozen I picked up, though there are slight variances they all had a nice peach flesh tone where this is a bright pink "sunburn" look. http://i1118.photobucket.com/albums/...risonsmall.jpg I have been willing to sell it but I am not going to let it go for a common base price. Maybe someday the hobby will recognize extra passes the way they do missing passes. |

Cobb is currently on display at the Met as a part of Burdick's collection -- thought it would be fun to include him.
The Johnson is mine, and it's one of my favorite cards. :) Cheers, Steve |
