PIEDMONT 460 Factory #42 find....Tinker (bat off shoulder) is for real

It's been 10 years since we started a survey on T206 PIEDMONT 460 Factory #42 cards. We had confirmed 62 of the 63 subjects
in the 350/460 series with this tough back. The Tinker (bat off shoulder) card has eluded us until now. An original find of a dozen
PIEDMONT 460/42 cards in the Carolina's recently included this Tinker.

Its interesting that all were handcut, makes me think it could have been a scrapped sheet. Unfortunately not mine.

Is there an article on this find?

PIEDMONT 460 Factory #42 find....Tinker (bat off shoulder) is for real

A week ago, I was contacted by a member of this forum who knew that I had been looking for this Tinker card for all these years.

He had acquired a T206 collection of PIEDMONT cards which included this card.

I leave it up to him, if he wants to chime in here and tell us his story.

And naturally some doucher trimmed the borders.

Great find Ted.

Are you going to the National? I'm actually going this year, for the first time.

tedzan 05-13-2015 06:54 PM

Hi Sean

I plan to be in Chicago for the National. I set up with Mark Macrae. Our booth is not too far from the entrance.

I look forward to meeting you and talking BB cards.

It's always nice to talk with you Ted, and I have enjoyed seeing you set up in Ephrata the last few years.

I did pick up the Tinker plus 11 more P42 cards, they all were cut (trimmed) in a similar fashion. The only one that would grade numerically was a Leach that is in vg condition. It was just a lucky find.

Damn, Andrew, you always find the coolest stuff! Congrats!

You have a few T205s I would not mind in my collection:)

It's a shame these were chopped but still a great find Andrew. Thanks for the scans.

In my view, there is no reason to think that Tinker was not part of normal P42 production. There is just a bell curve that is part of our everyday existence and which accounts for the elusivity of Tinker P42, which is a tough F/B combo to start with. Anyway, glad that Tinker is confirmed (even in "A") and kudos to those who were part of the discovery. It was a long time coming.

Yes fantastic news

I enjoy setting up at the show in Ephrata (Lancaster County, PA). This show is reminiscent of the shows in the 1970's and 1980's.
A lot of serious collectors attend with wantlists to complete their sets. And, they love to spend hours talking BB cards.

You and I have made some nice T206 deals at this show.

Take care, my friend.
