What do you guys think of this Ruth check? I suspect it might not be good if it's not a reprint(doesn't look like one). thanks

I think it is real and quite valuable.

+ 1 Looks valuable for sure!!! Is this item for sale? Check is in Claire's hand but full Ruth signature really rare and valuable.

I was just going to post this same question as it was just listed on eBay for $22,000.

I have some concerns about both the Babe and Claire signatures. Claire looks very slow and not much flow. I've compared her handwriting to other checks and this one seems a bit different.

The Babe's signature looks good at first glance but 2nd G in George looks a little shaky. I'm no expert but when I compared it to other checks from 1946 and 1947 I do have my doubt's.

I would be interested in hearing from some of the experts on this forum

That seller doesn't own this check! Nor do I, but am just asking thoughts on it.

Good check or not it is not worth $22,000.

The check is fine.
But not worth the ask.

Ruth Check

Either way, the check is no good. Signature is "Off" and Claire's signature is a clear indicator. The forger did a good version of Ruth, but chopped up Claire's signature with slow pen-flow and stop/start marks. Clearly the forger practiced the Babe's signature but didn't practice Claire's. I saw multiple auctions of Babe Ruth blank checks which sold. I have no doubt in my mind. The check is not worth $22,000. It is not worth $1 either.

The check is good. Of that, I have no doubt. Ever try faking those punch cancellations? Try it sometime. Claire's signature and handwriting are fine, as is the Babe's.

They sell estates and have auctions all of the time. Its easy to find an old writing utensil with period ink, and an old check cancellation device to put holes in paper.
The check, itself, is a real check, however, the Signatures are forgeries. I wouldn't want to "dupe" someone else and sell this item.

Whatever you say.

I believe a similar check sold in REA a few years back for about $4k-$5k. I agree with David, nothing wrong with this one.

Absolutely authentic signatures.

I'm more curious why the person on ebay is trying to sell it considering its up for auction somewhere else.

Great looking check. (though I will leave others to opine on authenticity). Maybe this seller is like the "wheretheyaint" seller and sells things he doesn't own, then when he sells them he goes and tries to buy them. Crazy idea to me...

Obviously the check was written out by Claire, not Babe. Where is the scan of the check's back? (Please see my postings under pet peeve) Since the check was made out to cash, who endorsed it? Also, while I appreciate the cancelation holes, where are the bank stamps? Usually, cashed and canceled checks are stamped by the bank.
