1930s Wheaties GG Wheaties article
Nice article in Gridiron Greats on 1930s Wheaties football. Nice pics. I like to try to get them with full borders which is a challenge. I believe the master set has 52 pieces, no?

What two did we miss, Carl? I have the following numbers for these sets:
1934 AA - 12 Fancy Frames - 8 1935 AA - 12 Coaches - 7 Six Man Football - 6 Big Ten - 5 Are there variations? jeff |

Thanks Carl, what do you have for a checklist? Agree on the full border and fancy frame. Anyone got that superstar wide receiver example, Steve Largent? :) |
There is a mid 40s set that is multi-sport that contains a Bernie Bierman (cartoonish) that's real tough. I remember taking to Bob Bostick who had that largest Wheaties collection going. He bought an entire collection in an old Mastro Auction just to get the set of 10! His collection was auctioned by Clean Sweep years ago. I think he had 30+ complete boxes. He passed away though.

Nice job by Jeff & Joe on the GG's Wheaties feature. Jeff, I think Carl is talking about this panel:

There is another 1937 Big Ten of the Football Field that Chad Dreier discovered. I don't think many saved it since it wasn't a player, but it was definitely part of the series. If they can count it in the 1971 Topps inserts we should be able to count it as part of the 1930s Wheaties.
I was the under bidder on the small wheaties box. :( . I know someone who has two others (different players), maybe someday !!! I guess not too many people saved their cereal boxes after they ate breakfast on the train or in hotel. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Hi Carl, not sure if this is the Wheaties "Football Field" panel you are talking about - looks like it was to be used for "radio football games". I have heard of other small boxes existing as well. Never verified, but one time I was told there was a Nagurski small box.

Great stuff, guys. I've never seen those Bierman's or the football field one before!
Is this the football field you were thinking of, Carl? jeff |

Mike, there are definitely two more small boxes. It's a big baseball collector from Cleveland..old timer, I'll see him at the national. I'd be shocked if he didn't have them, but I didn't actually see them.
