I couldn't let today pass without reminding everyone that today marks the 75th anniversary of Bob Feller's Opening Day no-hitter against the Chicago White Sox.

It's amazing that this feat hasn't been duplicated in 75 years. Pitchers typically have the upper hand early in the year when the weather hasn't warmed up yet. You would think that sooner or later it will happen because there have been several near misses...

Although many assumed that this was Rapid Robert's best no-hitter, he was always quick to remind people that his 2nd no-hitter against the NYY was absolutely his best pitched game because of the strength of the Yankees lineup.

Anyway, here is a toast to Mr. Feller's unique no-hitter. RIP Mr. Feller. :)
Show me your collectibles that relate to Bob Feller, and especially his OD no-hitter!

"Gorby" Smith, Hardluck loser. Only time a major league team played an entire game and all the players had the exact same batting average as when the game started.

Thanks again for gifting me this snapshot of Gorby Smith.

One of the best pitchers ever to play the game IMHO.

Rapid Robert, the Heater from Van Meter. What a career, and he also served four years in the Navy during World War II. He became one of the premier ambassadors for the game. Glad I had the opportunity to see him a few times doing public appearances, signing for free and having fun with fans. Those experiences definitely increased my desire to learn more about baseball history.

Cleveland Plain Dealer Sunday magazine supplement from July 22, 1962. The article inside details his child hood and the solid relationship with his father and family. This thread has brought out some very nice items on every post. The booklets shown by JLange are very special.

Great PD Sunday Magazine!

Yet another Bob Feller item I have never seen. It's amazing that your PD Sunday Magazine survived all those newspaper drives through the years. Very cool! Time to update my want list!

I believe he was the first HOFer and retired player I ever met in person. This was around 1984 at Pacific Trading Cards in Lynnwood, WA.
