Favorite D304 Brunners etc....

For those of you (us) that have the fortune of having one, some or a set of D304s, or if you even plan on getting any in the future :) what is your favorite pose? I always like the Collins but the Cobby is probably it for me...

I agree....the Cobb and the Collins are my personal favorites. I am a Wager person, but I do not care for that particular pose.

In terms of which is the best pose, it's probably Collins. The Cobb is such an iconic card, though.

Leon is the Rucker a scrap or just trimmed?

For most sets I think everyone favorites are the top tier HOFers simply because of the who the player is, but for this set, the Cobb is by far favorite, followed by either Crawford, Collins, or Baker.

No offense but I never understood the hype over the Cobb. He looks like he is 15 and holding a child's bat. I have had one card from the set and it was this Lajoie. It has a dated stamp on the back which is neat and was more of a draw than the picture itself.

The Cobb D304 is just such a striking and charming image. Was the first Pre War card I ever bought. Was love at first sight with those colors and the personality in Cobb's eyes.

The Honus is kind of a sleeper cool pose and colors.

Not a favorite, just the only one that has made it into my collection.
Looks like Howdy Doody to me. Merkle in a base running pose, how ironic.

Cool card, and no offense taken. I guess it's all a matter of taste. For some, it's the quirkiness of the image that creates its charm, similar to folk art.

Some like color, while others go for black n' white. Some prefer photo images, while others go for the cartoonish styles where some artistic liberties were taken a century ago. Diversity among our cards leads to widespread interest, and it's what makes the hobby go 'round. :)

Maybe it's coincidence, but it's funny how many Cobb cards are a little weird, or cause differences of opinion in the hobby. You either love 'em or hate 'em... Cobb's T3, T205, D304, and T227, just to name a few.

For those that dont' know, Cobb's T227 pose is the same as his T5 pose, only cut off a little...

Only have one but it is one of my favorite poses.

I may be mistaken; however, believe that I have seen that Cobb on a Tshirt somewhere. :D

Best regards,

I guess the first giveaway might have been the first card on the first set of Net54baseball T shirts.

And to answer a question up the string a little, I don't know if the Rucker is scrap or not. Unless I am fairly confident it is scrap, I don't call it scrap, however, it does have the scrappy look to it.

jthorst75 04-12-2015 06:51 PM

Leon, that is a very nice T227 Cobb you have there. That is on my list and in my opinion one of the best Cobb issues out there. Someday, someday...
