WTB 1935 Chicle Ernie Smith Ok fellas back down to needing 1935 Ernie Smith to complete the Chicle Set, looking in the 1.5-2.5 range SGC preferred. Thanks Tucker |
|
Did you go after this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1935-Nationa...p2047675.l2557 Seems like it went high and I definitely think the PSA 3 went high in the set builders LOTG auction - must be a lot of people quietly working on sets or maybe Packers collectors are to blame. Ernie was a starting lineman in the Packers 36 title game win and kicked a field goal in the 39 championship victory. |

Went after both!!! I enter after both lost by $.50 on the bay !! Lotg 1.5 was pretty rough , went higher then I. Wanted to go with premium Dez you still working on this set ?? |

This is a hard card to get. It always sells for a premium so when one comes up, you might need to stretch a little bit to snag it. Chicles are continuing to increase in value so the longer you wait the more its gonna cost unless the market corrects at some point. I think I told somebody this a year or two ago :) jeff |

I always keep my eyes open for that Ernie Smith for you but haven't run into another one recently. jeff |

Yeah, Jeff's PSA 4 Ernie was really reasonably priced and a nice card - I had not been working on the set for long and was distracted asking about some of the other cards (Rockne), the day I realized the Smith was the right card to buy, he had already sold it. I'm still working on the set - I always post my new Chicles in the pickup thread - I got the MacMurdo in the set builders auction - always nice to get a high number. I was the underbidder on a beautiful Hinkle that sold in last LOTG auction and the eBay auction for a Dutch Clark. The Clark miss was my fault, with so few bids, I was lazy to check VCP and threw a snipe out thinking for sure I'd win. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1935-NATIONA...p2047675.l2557 http://loveofthegameauctions.com/193..._-LOT4557.aspx With all my bidding people up, maybe I'm the one keeping the prices high :) |

Sent a PM lead on that Ernie Smith |

Finally!!! I won the Ernie Smith at the Sterling Auction!! Beautiful card and price was fair I thought?? Been 4 long years now to complete this incredible set, I have about 10 of the 36 to get crossed over to SGC holders and I will be putting the set on the SGC registry!! Thanks to everyone that has helped along the way, Jeff Payne, MSB Sportscards, Ray Novak, Iowa doc It has been a helluva rie and a lot of fun to put together, kinda bitter sweet but I am kicking around maybe trying to put together the Premium Set, I have 2 so far?? But we shall see, I also have some upgrading to do on the 1935 set to get it where I want it, but I am please with the accomplishment!! Thanks again fellas |
|
Congrats Tucker!!!! Glad you won it. I agree it was a beautiful card. Had I won, I was 100% planning to send it in for review since it was under graded to me. But that's also why I stopped bidding - part of me felt I was setting myself up to be disappointed when the review was rejected. In terms of valuation, to me the card was a PSA 4 stuck in a PSA 3 holder and as such you got a good deal. Maybe I can't call myself a true/pure collector for getting hung up on the grade, but knowing you got it - I won't kick myself for the loss :) |
|
thanks Dez I agree I think it is undergraded as well?? I am hoping SGC will give it a 50 but we shall see?? Just happy with the completion of the set and will be upgrading a few over the next couple months!! Dez good luck on your set, and if anyone is looking to swap PSA for SGC let me know, like I said I think I have 10 or 11 that need to be crossed over |
|
Congrats tuckr1: Glad you did win it it after all. I didnt want you to miss that one. |
|
Congrats tuckr1!!!!!!!!!!! The premium set would be a great one to focus on next. jeff |

Just missed another one tonight. So close..... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1935-Nationa...item56737880a7 |
|
I saw that one too I saw that one too Dez!!! darn things are elusive!!! Good luck with your set |

Chicle Tucker Congrats to you! Let us know when you get the crossovers done. That was the crappy part for me. Had a heck of a time with my Isola. PSA 5(and its associated price to a SGC A). And most were downgraded a grade or half grade. You may consider cracking them out before sending. Congrats and enjoy. It is a classic set! |
|
Thanks Thanks Iowa doc for the advice on cracking them out, I'll probably do that |

SGC hates PSA And I am sure the feeling is mutual and the same for BVG. I thought SGC was much more strict than PSA, but now I think it was just the games the play. Cost me a lot on my crossovers. Crack Ernie out! Let him breathe a bit before he is forever encased! Eric |
