mitts from the 1880's
I don't know a whole lot about the gloves used in the 1880's. i was at a local card shop today and they had an old mitt the guy claimed was from 1885. It looked like an oven mitt...a thumb and a pad...no fingers. It was labeled but i cant remember the manufacturer. it had a riveted button. Anyone know if this sounds like a correct vintage and what a value would be? anyone have pics of similar mitts?

If you're visually oriented, this is also a great resource....

If you get back to the shop take some pics of the glove, especially the label. Hard to assess without any pictures. If it is truly an 1880s glove (90% of those that are claimed to be, are not) then it has good value, but will vary greatly depending on condition, style and features. Labeled gloves fom that period are very scarce, but there were no standards so gloves/mitts from that period came in many shapes and sizes.

yeah...i should have taken pics. after looking at the resources you guys pointed out...along with my little knowledge about gloves I don't think it was c1885 as the guy stated. additionally it was a manufacturer I had never heard of.
