Worst World Series Ring Giveaway Idea Ever! Your thoughts?
1 Attachment(s)
I was planning on posting this story and asking the members here if they thought this was a bad idea - for quite a few reasons including the jinx factor.
Now I see either the Astros, or their minor league affiliate, who concocted this giveaway, cancelled the promotion. The story reported in the media was that the Fresno Grizzlies seemed to have a lot of confidence in their MLB affiliate, the Houston Astros, to win the 2017 World Series. They supposedly felt so strongly about it, they created an entire promotional campaign around it, including 2017 World Series championship rings to hand out to fans. This was part of a "Back to the Future" -themed promotion, which included hideous DeLorean-inspired jerseys, complete with the famous flux capacitor on the jersey. Any thoughts on the ring, cancelling the promotion or the Jersey? |
My biggest problem with it is that if anyone should play off the "Back to the Future" idea with a gimmick ring it should be the Cubs or one of their affiliates. At least they have a reason to do something like this since it was their club that is mentioned in Back to the Future 2 as winning the 2015 World Series so there would be a context for it.

My wife and I watched this on New Year's Eve this year because it just felt so appropriate. |
Terrible. I'm glad someone had enough sense to pull the plug on this.
