SPORT FAN fall 1973 issue. Anyone got a copy?

Hey guys. I'm looking for anyone with a copy of SPORT FAN from 1973. Believe what I'm looking for is the fall issue as apparently there is coverage in there of a show in Detroit from that summer. Looking for details on the T206 Wagner that was auctioned off that weekend. Thanks  .

Thanks again!

My pleasure. Consider it small pay back for the mid-70's Aronstein/Gallagher/Yeko shows that helped me get started in the hobby.

Hi Howie:

Thanks for posting the above Sports Fan. Andrew Aronstein has PM'd me about my buying the Wagner card from his father. I told him I thought I got it at a show in Cincinnati, but my memory is at fault by what I am reading here. You'd think I would remember EVERYTHING about buying a Wagner.

I drove straight from the show in Detroit to Mike's house in NY to pick up the Wagner. Then returned home to New Jersey. As I have posted elsewhere here on Net54, I sold my Wagner along with the rest of my collection to Barry Halper a few later. My copy recently turned up in a Bill Goodwin auction and sold for $1.2 MILLION. OUCH!

I do recall outbidding Karen M. I am probably the only guy to have a Wagner before he had the other cards in the set, but as can be read in the above I bought the rest of the set from Frank Nagy.

I was in his basement about four or five times over the years, what a treat that was!

I guess I should find a copy of this issue of Sports Fan so I don't forget anything else in the future!

Fred would love to hear your stories of the hobby in the 70's and before.

Thank you Fred for that amazing story and thanks Howie for finding that issue. The show sounds like it was incredible. Even Lionel Carter auctioned a set off! Amazing stuff. Take care,

Peace, Mike
