Is this actually real??
 

I was always under the assumption that a lot of, if not all of these Babe Ruth counter displays were all fantasy pieces, but considering how much this actually got bid up to I'm just wondering if I am wrong! Here's the link to the ebay auction… What're your thoughts??? The seller also had a Ted Williams Moxie sign thought I had my doubts on.

Based on the amount of signs he has listed and has sold and also the Neutral and Negative Feedback the seller has on Toolhaus, my guess is the Ruth and Williams signs are fake.

Yuck. Generally display pieces will have crisp printing. Fake pieces have printing that isn't so crisp, like this ebay auction.

Yeah, I just couldn't believe how high those went for! Does anyone know of any real versions of these signs and have any pictures they could share??

And the buyer(s) will eventually be really pissed. The value of a real sign like that one sold would be several thousand dollars.

They sell alot of metal and porcelain signs but not to many cardboard ones.

Here's the real McCoy of Ted Williams/Moxie.... typically goes for $600 - $700 in nice condition.

As for the Ruth, I read (from a reliable source) that the only authentic version is the large floor display.... with only 2 or 3 known to exist. The smaller Counter display signs are all believed to be fantasy/counterfeit pieces.

WOW that is one fine display! Great piece… And oh okay that makes sense. Thanks! I would think a solid figure for the moxie bottle would be $150 to $200… Some have gone for more, some I've seen for less, but I think that's a good estimate in the secondary market. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

If you have a plain old bottle of Moxie then it is not worth much. I was still seeing it in stores a few years ago and still in glass bottles. When I was a kid in Mass in the late 1960's early 1970's I tasted it a few times. Tough to take at the time.

I was assuming it was the 1 pint 10 ounce with Ted on the label you were talking about… But I see probably not. :cool:

Moxie is still a staple at stores here in New England!

I had a Moxie just last month! It is still easily available here in Maine. Sort of an acquired taste though, I think. :)
