The best 20th Anniversary Card ever....

So I get my wife a nice purse a month or so ago in preparation for today, our 20th anniversary. As I am playing a softball game last night I remember I didn't have a card yet. I forget to get it on the way home, turn around and hastily go get one, late last night...with some kind of rubbish lie about what I was going to do. I get up this morning (wife is still sleeping) find my card from her, open it, very nice....great.

I go out to my car to get the card I got her last night, to sign it. I open it up again, read it. I get to the last 3 words and it was classic.....

Happy Mothers Day.....F%$#

Wonderful.....what to do? I sign it Happy 20th and move on. I hope she likes it. It is classic me.

My older sister did the same thing to my younger sister. She thought she was buying a birthday card and got her a mother's day card, this was when we were teens (prior to either of them having any children). The irony is that my younger sister has always had a gift of learning other languages and knew Spanish, so that same year I had bought her a card in Spanish knowing full well that it was a baby's first birthday card but pretended I didn't know what it said and stated "I figured it had a cake on it so it would be appropriate."
So both of her siblings didn't get her a card that made any sense that year. :D

Wow, Leon. And here your wife thought you knew everything about cards!

It 's easy Leon- Just cross out HappyMother's Day and write in Happy Anniversary. She might even think it's funny.

And happy 20th to you. We have our 30th in May.

Both my wife and I forgot about our 26th anniversary last week, until 2 days later when she said Happy Anniversary 2 days late. She was not being sarcastic either. I have a great wife. She kept me around all these years. :p

Thanks Barry,
She read it, didn't notice it one bit, thanked me and kissed me. I told her to read it again, she did, still didn't see it. Then I said, read every word of it. Then she saw it and we both laughed. It's just me. The new Louie Vuitton purse & checkbook made up for it. Here is to another 20!!

That’s funny. I’m reading this book called “Love & Respect” where a similar situation happens…but he doesn’t realize it until after he gives her the card. At least you realized your mistake before you gave her the card.

From the book…

Whilst living in Germany, I was dating a German girl and could speak no German.
she had to go to the doctors and get a contraceptive device (???) inserted. She was in great pain and had to spend 24 hours in bed.
Now remember I can speak no German so I think I will toddle off and get her a get well card and some flowers. Well when I got to the card section I was out of my depth, thousands of cards!! So I thought I will grab any card and explain my lack of German.
I went to her apartment presented with the flowers and gave her the card.
MY CARD WAS A WELCOME TO YOUR NEW HOME CARD!!!

Been there, done that, never going there again. My wife loves to give and get cards so I play it safe now. After I forgot to get a birthday card for her about 25 years ago she became a bit upset. I didn't forget her birthday or to get her a present and take her out of town for the weekend, just forgot the card. I went to the local dollar store where cards are $.50. I bought about a dozen each birthday, anniversary and christmas cards. I put them in a large zip lock bag to keep them clean. I always have a supply on hand and don't have to make excuses to leave the house a 10 at night to get a card. I also keep them in my locker at work so she doesn't find them. That wouldn't go over well either. Good luck next year!

I am pretty good about remembering cards for occasions. My wife always keeps them and puts them in a drawer and goes back and reads them sometimes. Apparently I have purchased the same card for multiple birthday and anniversary. I just explain it away by telling her how great those Hallmark writers are and how perfectly they describe her.
