The 1913 National Game card set & the 1914 Polo Grounds card set?
I think they are beautiful with great photos and wonderful backs. National Game cards even include the US Patton date and number! When I started collecting these, I found them an affordable way to collect the greatest Hall-of-Famers at a reasonable price. I always liked the National Games.
The 1909 James Jeffries playing card is a nice set in similar vein for boxing collectors. http://www.legendaryauctions.com/Ite...99405a_lg.jpeg |

The series that are on playing type cards have great pictures and are usually more affordable than most others. Another great way to collect on a budget. Big stars still cost some but not relative to most, except strip cards. (scans aren't to size)

Love them but terrified of getting hooked.

Leon - I have that Monte Cross card...it was my first 100-year-old card and I chose him from a group because I felt his appearance best represents that age of baseball.

When I was collecting my HOF collection I used these type, sets for some of the bigger players to make them affordable. Two years ago I sold off almost all of my prewar but did keep 7 of my HOFers including this one which I am now thinking about selling.

my first pre-war card
It never occurred to me that collecting pre-war cards was even a possibility for me and my budget until I was browsing ebay and saw this card. It opened up a whole new world. And soon after I found Net54.
