Show us a personal favorite boxing card
Doesn't have to be valuable, just one you happen to enjoy.
1951 Ringside salesman sample: Objectively, this card has a lot going for it. It is a Marciano RC, it is rare, and it has multiple HOFers on it. Subjectively, I love the colors and graphics, especially the back. I think it is one of the nicest graphics packages Topps ever did and probably my favorite salesman sample of theirs. http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...Sample%201.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...Sample%202.jpg |
Sorry this is off-topic, Adam, but I've been trying for weeks to purchase your 2012-13 book through Lulu, but can't connect. Might be because I'm in Beijing. Could you please e-mail me at trailonice@yahoo.com with info on how I can purchase directly from you through PayPal. Please include the cost of shipping to my home address in Canada. Thanks!

Adam, I love that salesman sample. The colors are great and the back is neat. Isn't that the same as the box top? Picking a favorite is always tough, but I've always liked the simplicity of this Sullivan.

Lightweight Champion Arthur Chambers. I have always liked this pose. You can see all his fingers in this photo. Which dates it before his middle finger got amputated in the late 70's. It's funny in his older photos he is always hiding his left hand. My wife says he looks like a child molestor in this photo. Which kind of takes the enjoyment out of the cdv. But anyway nice shot of him with belts and trophies..

I picked 2 favs--1 from the 19th C & 1 20th C, both from my '51 Ringside set.
Kid Gavilan & his "bolo punch" was a boxer I grew up watching on the Wed nite Pabst Blue Ribbon bouts and the Fri nite "Gillette Cavalcade of Sports" on the old B&W TV back in the early '50's |

Johnson v Jeffries

I really like this postcard. When I look at it closely, I feel like I'm in Reno sitting in the front row. Jeffries is his trademark crouch, Johnson pawing at him with a jab...great stuff.

The Johnson-Jeffries bout did yield some striking images. I like this one:

A total rip-off of the 1970 Topps Super design: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...Locche%201.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...s%20Monzon.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...20Bonavena.jpg |

My favorite since it's the only graded boxing I have left other than some raw exhibits.

1933 Sport Kings. I love all the 1930's cards- especially the Goudeys, Diamond Stars and these.

Hint: It's not Sammy.

Great one, Jerry. That is one of the rarest boxing Exhibit cards.

I love the Newsboy Sullivan (still believed to be one of a kind) as well as the Romeo y Julietta Sullivan vs. Kilrain (because it shows what the boxers actually looked like in the late 1910's). Please note - I have no idea how to scale the size of the pictures.

Favorite from Jim Jeffries' Playing Deck Originals

This is the photo used by Jeffries: six-of-clubs: “Fredericks-Rafferty “ A Pair Of Uncle Sam's Best Featherweights”
I have not yet identified who's who. So many athletes of that time did not photograph well, but tell me the man in the tighty whities is not like beautiful sculpture. |
How to pick?

Don- I can't believe I actually gasped out loud when I saw the John L. cigar box with cards display. Cool stuff, man!

Hey rook, we don't generally 'out' auctions that are in progress. If the item is yours and you are plugging it, that belongs in the BST section.
|
Love the bidding history
As my loving girlfriend calls it "A black man in his underwear" http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...20Langford.jpg |
Why T3d, whatever do you mean??? Are you insinuating that there is something abnormal about two bidders with virtually no feedback and 100% of bids with the seller of the item, then having the item plugged here by a new registrant with no other activity?
Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here! [a croupier hands Renault a pile of money] Croupier: Your winnings, sir. Captain Renault: [sotto voce] Oh, thank you very much. |
This is one of my favorite cards.
The Italian back Mike Tyson Panini rookie. The UK back is actually from 1987. http://i767.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps9aff6cd5.jpg |
