anybody out there have the complete 1956 jay publishing pirates checklist? better yet, does anyone have a set for sale???? also looking to buy the 1958 pirates set. LMK thanks

I own the Clemente's from both years. I own the complete 1957 set. I believe I have access to a checklist for 1956 and 1958. I will try to check and follow up. In my collecting experience, the 1956-1958 Pirates sets are exquisitely rare. Good luck and happy collecting!

For at least one edition of the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards many years ago we published complete Jay checklists for each team for each year.

I don't remember the year or years, and don't have back editions to check, but the checklists are out there.

I am just starting to get into these sorts of items for my player collections. What Clemente is this?

It's from this Jay's Publishing photo pack set which is either 1960 or 1961, Gino Cimoli was a member of the Pirates for all of 1960 and for the first half of 1961.

There is a VERY subtle crop variation between 1959 and 1960. I will take a look and compare when I have an opportunity. The 1961 is a completely different photo.

Adam, that's the problem with Jay singles . . .

The same photo was often used in different years, sometimes with a minor cropping difference, sometimes not.

The only way to know is to have the entire team pack and hope there were different players in each years.

and thank you Mr Lemke. The copies of the SCD that I saw did not have the 1956 set. My copy listed the players in alphabetical order and not by years. Love your blogs.

Based on my comparisons, I believe the one you have is from 1960. Happy collecting!
