HELPPPP with this 1952 Mantle
2 Attachment(s)
Is this the real deal? Any advice would be appreciated - the seller claims it has been in his family since it was new

any help on whether its atleast authentic or not would be much appreciated
|
Its been in the family since new......so a couple years? :p

I guess there is "some" entertainment value here.
|
so i take that to mean no good?
|
It looks like some sort of reprint to me.
The original 1952 Topps Mantle was DOUBLE-PRINTED, and there are obvious "distinct differences" on the fronts of the two actual prints. This image you have posted here is not consistent with these "distinct differences" in the DOUBLE-PRINTED Mantle cards. TED Z |
Thank you... i was scared of that... the back showed type 2 to me, but i didnt see the overhang on the corners or the missing pixel on the left on the front... i appreciate the help

Artificial mouse damage. What is next?
|
facebook user, profile pic is a man and wife and the man is a in a cop uniform.... said it was in his family since it was new.... makes things more fun all the time

Just curious, if it was a real 52 Mantle in this terrible condition, how much do you think it would go for?
|
after looking at it for 2 sec. I could see its not an authentic 52

Another tell tale sign of artificial aging... notice how the card is all creased up and ripped, but the corners are overall fairly sharp. The wear is inconsistent. The biggest flag, though, is in the image. The color and print are all wrong, as other have noticed and pointed out. |

I think you are right and I was off on the first estimate -- $2K tops with that much missing, and your 1.5K looks good. The damage on the fake Mantle posted in the OP is so over the top. We see a lot of beaters in the hobby, many cards that are "well loved", but it seems rare to find a card ripped up like that (usually at that point the card would be tossed out, not worth saving). |
