Question on Lost Ebay Item
Hi all,
Quick question for the group. I just noticed a positive feedback on ebay for a card I sold that was delivered (according to my USPS tracking ##) on February 2. The positive feedback is below: Refunded my PayPal account in a quick manner after discovering the item was lost My question is, I was never notified by the buyer (who has a 31 feedback rating) that the item was lost. I was never notified by ebay/paypal that there was a claim on the item. My Paypal account has not been debited. So did Paypal refund the purchase price? And if so, can I expect them to debit my account for the price of the card ($76.00)? Should I contact ebay/paypal now, or wait until/if they contact me or attempt to debit my account? Any feedback would be appreciated as this is the first time that I've ever had a situation where the item was claimed to be lost (although the buyer never contacted me directly and did leave positive feedback). Best, Steve |
I would contact the buyer and ask him/ her what the story is. Maybe feedback was left for you instead of a diff seller from the buyer.

When you start to leave a feedback Ebay lets you auto fill the comment line with your past feedback comments. It might be that the buyer got the card, rated the transcation as positive, and mistakenly put an old comment with it. You can see the last few comments the buyer left by clicking "feedback left for others" to see if the one you got is there also. If that isn't the case then it is strange and I would probably send the buyer a message just so you don't end up getting a surprise and a more difficult situation in a few weeks if things somehow progress.

Thanks Steve and Bryan,
Great thoughts and I just sent a message to the buyer. Hopefully it's just a mix up with another item. I'll update the thread when I hear back. Thanks again, another reason why we have the best group on the net!! :D Best, Steve |
Steve and Bryan,
You guys called it. See below. False alarm and now I can enjoy a few Saturday beverages!! :D That feedback was given wrongly. I left that for someone else but it carried over in my feedback for you. Sorry. I did receive the homerun Baker without any problems. |
Steve,
Similar situation has happened to me on more than one occasion in which a buyer left me feedback intended for someone else. I suggest that you call eBay and explain the situation and they will remove the feedback. |
Thanks Howard,
In this case, it was positive feedback, so I'm not too concerned with the actual comments. He confirmed that the card was received and I noted that in a follow up. I really appreciate the input (and I'm sure I'll be buying more cards from you in the near future!! :D)! best, Steve |
Glad it all worked out!

Some guy recently left me a feedback stating the item didn't fit, but still gave me positive...he bought a vintage Hot Wheels car from me. I emailed him and asked him what the deal was. He told me he left the comment by accident. I looked at his feedback left for others and he leaves this same comment for about half of his transactions. It's not like he's a newbie either, his feedback rating was above 500 and he'd been on ebay for years.
