Is this a Turn of the century Mushroom Bottle Bat? Does anyone know what type of bat or from what period this might be? I recently picked up a large group of bats and this was with the group. I am not a bat guy and have no clue as to what I have here. Thanks in advance for any input.

Can you provide length pls? Has a bottle bat barrel and an interesting knob, but it could be a handle or an implement of some kind.

Jim - Thnx for information. I have would be very curious as to time frame of these old bottle bats... 1880's-1900's ?? |
bottle bats became popular in the late teens to early 20's. So that would pretty much cover the time period
|
Some additional pictures would be useful, especially of the barrel end and some close ups of the handle meeting the barrel and of the knob.

John - Here are a few more pics...
Thnx for everyone's help ! |
same as I said before, home made, not a professional bat
|
Based on the barrel end and the shape of the knob I'd date this bat as 19th century, maybe 1880's-early 1890's. Definitely hand made.

Thanks John for the info. It looks 19th century to me... I don't recall seeing a 20th century bat that is shaped like this one, but I am not a bat guy per se... |
The flat barrel end strongly suggests pre-1890 and the knob shape also reflects 19th century bats. Flat barrel ends were outlawed in 1893.

Thank you!

The strange thing about this bat is how I purchased it. I didn't even know it was in the lot of about 15 or so bats I purchased. (It's not the reason why purchased the group of bats, but certainly a nice surprise!) |
