So... what is the proper cooling off period
 

For a hidden gem auction on eBay that has closed? One full business day so that the item can be shipped? Three business days?

What say ye? I will wait the appropriate period of time before asking who won an auction this weekend that was poorly advertised, but still had a spirited bidding war.

Sadly there are those that will contact the seller and ask to be sold the item despite a closed auction...and sadly there are auction sellers that would respond and sell the item from under the auction winner. I'd wait at least 3 days.

Item in hand or 10 days.

Two days after notice of shipment, with tracking, is fairly safe...

Gotta wait until the tracking shows actual dispatch from the originating post office. There are too many people with no class who will try to undermine a deal otherwise.

So how would I know that unless I'm the buyer? I guess that's why everyone is recommending 10 days, rather than 3. Maybe they're worried the post office will read about it and steal it during transit...

Since I've waited the requisite 10 days. Nice pickup of a poorly identified "Speckled/Spotted/Dotted" tie card.

I didn't win but I did contact the seller and tell him/her not to sell them on a clandestine buy it now deal........he's primarily a nonsport guy but does have the occasional BB item.....

For the people (like me) who still have a lot to learn about OJs, can someone please explain the significance of this card as well as provide an approximate price had it been better advertised? Gracias.

It's always nice to see a shot of hope splashed on ebay in raw form. What a nice OJ! If graded, I am going with VG to VG+, maybe vg-ex.

So if this Spotted Tie is graded SGC 45 VG+, what is the going price at auction?

I'm curious too. It seems like the prices are all over the place for the spotted ties. I know some players only have a spotted tie card in the set, and other players are expensive for other reasons (like Behel).

An SGC 86 spotted tie sold for $3,500 in Legendary last year. An SGC 80 went for $2,500 in Goodwin last year. Makes it hard to guess value.

$1000-$2000? I think SGC40-45 sounds right.....maybe outside 40. Picture is a little light.

Darn, I was hoping the lot went that high because of the N76 Samuel Morse. :D:D:D

I'm not understanding the responses on length of the 'cooling off period'.

Members here regularly post links to ebay auctions that just ended. Am I not understanding the question? :confused:

The idea is that if you out an auction that has just ended under market value, unscrupulous buyers may contact an unscrupulous seller and collude to cancel the sale. By waiting 10 days to out the auction, the seller will have shipped the card and can't try to sell it for a better offer.

I understand the reasons, I just don't understand Net54 members responding as such, given that we regularly post ebay links as soon as an auction ends;i.e-we are posting theory, not action.

If I have no skin in the game, I don't bother worrying about when to post about an interesting item. I thought it was a winner asking how long to wait until posting about a lucky snag. I always wait until I see the tracking showing actual deposit in the mail. Once that happens I feel safe to divulge a big win publicly.

Not that anyone would bother interfering with the crap I collect...

Apparently, it didn't. The same seller has the card up again, with a BIN of $4,750.

I guarantee you it didn't actually happen. I bought a few others at similar prices only to have the sales canceled and my money refunded on the same day.

I just looked and you guys are right. Looks like a lot of the cards sold are now back up for sale.

It was a crazy mistake by a very reputable dealer. I too, noticed that they got relisted. When I first saw them I was so mad because I missed out, but I figured they were going to pop up again and sure enough they did. Deals like that never seem to happen!

Joe is an honest guy and a good dealer. Mistakes happen and I wouldn't honor an obvious big mistake either. I wouldn't mind getting that card posted for a hundred dollars though.

I agree, Joe is one of the best in the business. I bought my first t206 lot from him four years ago and continue to buy from him today.

When I checked out the completed listings and saw that I couldn't believe it and when I saw who the seller was, I was in shock [emoji33]
