Honus Wagner Throwing 350 Caporal Back
2 Attachment(s)
Hello,
Looking for information on a 350 Caporal Wagner Throwing. I let a few people I trust inspect this and was told it was real. I saw on checklists this card was listed as a probable no print. I was told if this was re-backed, it was done some time ago and was a really good job, if that was the case. |
The back is a T206.
The front is not. |
Yep, definitely re-backed. I had a similar card of Cobb which was done very well and it was tough to tell. Still, has some value but very minimal compared the unaltered version of this card.
|
Thank you both for the quick response.
Can you tell what the front was originally? Should I attempt to remove the incorrect back? What would it be worth as is? |
I would trust others for the value, but there's a good chance it is a skin, so I would not remove the back. It is a caramel card but there's a good chance that at some point it was spliced together and, IMO, would be worth less if you tried to remove the back. Hard to tell without holding it.

Well this is the BST section so I'll open the bidding. $200,000.00 :D:D:D
|
Is the caramel card legit?
|
I would guess legit.
|
This card looks very familiar. Pretty sure it's been discussed in the past on this board.
|
Front is either an E90-1 card, or it could be a rare T216 card.

I read somewhere (here?) that the card was altered years ago by a frustrated T206 collector. He just wanted a Honus for his collection with no intent of defrauding anyone.
|
Or maybe an E102 front.
It's a sandwiched card. |
It's definitely rarer than the Wagner portrait variation.
I'd venture to guess that it's even rarer than the Doyle NY Nat'l. variation too. |

Thanks again to everyone here. That much of the back came off without any effort.
|
Its an E92.
I'd gently soak the rest of the back off and then pat dry and place in between some paper towels and heavy books. Or just do what you've been doing if it's coming off that easy. Looks like you're losing paper though. Robert |

+1 I would stop peeling immediately and read up on soaking to get the rest of the job done. Hopefully, as a board member, the person who made this card originally used water-soluble glue. I can say that you are lucky to find that the Wagner isn't skinned - that is a nice card! |

Here is my final product. I am too scared to go any further with my Kampking and Q-tips. I may try the paper towels and heavy books idea. Thank you. I think I lost the word Base at the top left. I can not see any writing underneath and I am again too scared to dig deeper.
